Re: To those of you drinking tonight

I'm very sorry for your loss. Was this the accident near the Manhattan exit, I heard about it last night from my girlfriend, her dad doesn't live that far away.

I don't drink, so I'll be doing my part.

The US sentence of a DUI is so extremely lacking compared to other countries. Right now I'm in driving school and this guy has come in and talked to us a couple time and hes mentioned this, and how some countries the penalty is extremely severe. In Sweden i think you loose your license for life, other places its jail time and hard labor for years, and in El Salvador its death by firing squad

I lost a friend to drinking and driving over 25 years ago. I have nothing but anger for those who choose to drink and drive. Honestly,if I saw someone on the road hoisting a beer or alcohol,-I'd dime em' out to the police in a second without thinking about it. Even though they could go to jail-I could be saving others rather than just their life. It's legal to drink and I'm fine with that. Although I don't even at home, just coffee.

              My condolences

I can't stand drunk-drivers, they are the lowest of the low as far as I am concerned. I hope this guy rots in prison for the rest of his life.

I know how you feel, a kid on our football team a couple of years ago was taken when he his car broke down and he pulled OFF the road and then got hit by a drunk driver.

It's just grinds my gears when I'm hanging around a group and someone starts talking about how they can't believe they were able to drive home because they were so drunk.

here in AZ they have tons of commercials saying "DUI? Expect the Max" and you go to jail for any sort of DUI, get an interlock, etc. Just a regular DUI, not harming anyone else or anything.

You don't want to mess with that ish. Don't drink and drive.

I know a kid who was driving drunk and killed one of his best friends in the passenger seat. Of course, he walked away without a scracth. Can't stand drunk drivers, seems like they always walk away.

Condolences to you, your family, and friends, Millenium.

Two of them are now dead.

I was going to a party for a friend of a friend a few years back. The week of Thanksgiving and the kid had just gotten home from military school. As we're driving, we get passed by two cop cars that fly by us. One turns on the street we were going down, the other goes a little farther up. So we followed the cop as it was pretty much where we were going anyways.

As we get up on where the cop was stopped, we saw a truck smashed into a tree, the cops we were following were the first ones on the scene. We didn't think anything of it and go to the house where the party was. We get there only to find out Paul, the guy who the party was for, had just left to take his brother home and was coming back. We told everyone that we had seen a truck smashed and like normal teenagers, we decided to walk down there and see what was happening. I'm sure you can see where this is going.

Turns out the truck we saw was Paul's truck. So about 30 of his friends are standing 50 feet away from the truck, as the fireman go to work trying to get him and his brother out. To make the rest of the story short, we all ended up going to the hospital until the kicked us out. The cops said based on skid marks and damage, he was probably doing around 60 when he hit the tree. This was on a small residential road, that goes downhill and curves to the left. He was going way too fast for the turn, couldn't make it, and nailed the tree.

I found out a couple days later that he died of his injuries but luckily his brother survived the accident.

This, actually made the national news two years ago. Can't remember which program it was, Dateline or something like that, but they did a story on underage drinking, and this was one of the stories they told. EDIT: Just looked, it was 60 minutes. They interviewed Paul's mom.

Sorry for jacking your topic Millennium, but it kind of fits. Moral is don't drink and drive.

Just tragic. Being a retired cop I can't tell you how much alcohol related incidents affect our daily lives.

My nephew was killed in a car accident when a passenger with his buddy, both of whom were drunk. He drove into a construction zone on the freeway and ran smack dab into the rear of an asphalt truck, which deposit the hot asphalt into the front of the car covering both the driver and my nephew. Driver lived, got three years.

Just terrible and so sorry for your lose.

Yes, we need MUCH stronger laws.
