Re: To those of you drinking tonight
so sad to see and hear. my condonlences. my family was in a crash when my mom was pregnaunt with my brother. Thankfully everyone survived that crash.
a very similiar event happened last year where I live. a drunk driver, who the airlines where he flew into my town allowed him to drink beyond his limit. not just that but he bought more alcohol at a local gas station. He ended up on the wrong side of the freeway and nearly wiped out an entire family. a few young girls, both parents, and left one teenager alive. How very sad to see this occuring:

Re: To those of you drinking tonight
If bars really wanted to help put an end to drunk driving they could offer vouchers with a certain # of drinks to get money off of cab fare, say 30% off. They could have an exclusive deal with a local cab company. The cab company takes the vouchers and doesn't charge the restaurant in exchange for the increased business. The high cab fees are one reason some people don't take a cab, I know a lot of people don't take cabs for other reasons but even keeping 1 drunk driver off the road is an accomplishment. I know that I don't like paying $30 each visit to the bar (I wish I lived closer) but I go ahead and do it. Some people outright can't afford it though (or refuse to afford it but may choose to if the price was lower).
Also, it should be a state law that each bar have a breathalyzer so people can check their alcohol level before they leave the bar. And those machines should be FREE to use. There is no need for an establishment that already makes a lot of money off of drinks has to go and try to make money off of a test for a driver to see if they are too drunk to drive IMO.
As for the state police, if they truly wanted to end drunk driving they would have presence right at the most popular local bars randomly. They would follow people right out of the establishment and do random stops and check breathalyzer levels. They should rotate where they go on a nightly basis and it should be random and periodic (in other words they couldn't camp at a bar all night, it would kill business, just stop there for an hour, then move on to somewhere else).
Yes the above would require paying more police of course. In fact, all that I speak of would require more money but the problem is worth it, especially when you stop to think of all the stupid crap our tax money goes toward. I honestly think that, as you guys say, a lot of people simply don't realize how drunk they are. Getting free breathalyzer machines in ALL bars or restaurants that serve beer would be a huge stop IMO to eliminating a lot of people who are as of now misjudging their alcohol level.
P.S. - In regards to the macho thing, in the town where I'm from there is a local business that offers rides home for FREE to drunks. I talked to the owner and he said no one hardly at all ever calls. Call it macho, call it "i didn't realize I was that drunk" or whatever, but bottom line is it's mostly a pride issue that prevents people from calling. Most people do realize they should probably not drive but their pride and the attitude of "oh it's just this once and i'll make it ok" is the prevalent one that causes drunk crashes.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: To those of you drinking tonight
I can tell you right now that doesn't work. A bar that I used to go to on Saturday nights always had a police presence from about 11 on. They were there early for the fights that tended to break out, but once the place closed, they would follow people, and pull them over. Might have stopped one or two people from doing it, but they still busted a ton of people each night.Comment

I think you misunderstood. I'm not saying people don't listen to themselves, I'm saying they just flat out don't realize they are in no condition to drive. There mind isn't telling them they are in no condition to drive, it has nothing to do with them not "listening".
