I believe you. I've had the sleep paralysis since I was a kid, and your mind freaks you out trying to cope with it, as it comes up with some crazy stuff. I would be having a nice normal dream, only to have it always interrupted by sheer terror. You "wake up", so the events seem more real, as you're unaware that you're still asleep. I've seen dark spirits above my bed, had bright lights fill my room with shadowy figures, and heard demon talking sounds all while I can't move. I've even felt like my skin was burning. I know what it is now, so when it happens, I can pull myself out. But before I did, I used to think I was haunted, visted by aliens, and messed with by demons all at night too.

Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
I used to have sleep paralysis also. One thing I don't understand is that why do all occurances involve "hallucinations" of beings that are nefarious in nature. Why can't it be a nice meaty naked brunette who's holding me down, with me wishing I'd never have to wake up?I've had the sleep paralysis since I was a kid, and your mind freaks you out trying to cope with it. Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
It's strange I come across this thread while just a couple of minutes before I started reading this thread I was looking about the meaning of reoccouring dreams.
I keep having one about a nuclear holocaust. It's the same senario except sometimes I'm in a different city. But in most cases I'm in my hometown of Chicago. I hear about a possible nuclear attack on either the radio or TV on the city that I'm currently in. Then I start to make a run for it but don't know where I'm running to. In reality, I would run to the nearest bombshelter BUT in my dream I'm just running randomly. Unusually, I would do something that I would not probably do in real life. I would try to hide behind something that I know will not protect me like one time I remember hiding behind an old wooden table that was at my parents house. Then as the nuclear missle hits and as the heat and radiation starts to surround me I either wake up OR I last the duration of the blast BUT whatever is protecting me ACTUALLY WORKS!? And in my dream if I last the blast, I look around and see devestation. Then I wake up.
Typically, I never know who are the attackers of the nuclear strike BUT last night I had the dream and I knew who attacked us. If anybody who watched the Terminator movies and watch the Terminator series I discovered that Skynet was attacking us. So call me crazy BUT I was dreaming about the start of the machine war. Why it changed up this time I have no clue. Maybe it's because I actually digg the new Terminator Series on Fox? But nevertheless, I've been dreaming about nuclear holocaust since I was 13.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

That's odd. When I read the first paragraph, I was gonna ask you if you were Sarah Connor. Then I read the second paragraph.Comment

Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
I don't think I've had a unique experience with dreams in my life, but they have been a pretty substantial part of my life since I can remember. In my younger years my dreams were vivid and frequent, usually unpleasant. These are few that have really made me sit down and think about dreams, which I think are fascinating.
--My most memorable and vivid dream, and I honestly think it was because it is the first dream I ever remembered and probably when I was very young because I remember a crib as weird as that sounds, was me running from my room and seeing Frankenstein. I stabbed him in the eye with a fork and went back to my room, where Lisa Simpson was playing the saxaphone in my crib. I'm 18 years old and until I was about 11 I swore that dream really happened.
--But as far as recurring dreams, i don't remember a thing about them (Thank God) but for a solid week after I saw Friday the 13th (I was about 12) I had my parents wake me up cuz I'd be screaming on the bed and fighting something. I never had that happen to me before or after, but I guess it was intense.
--I've woken up in tears before dreaming a relative has died or my parents seperated and other stuff. I wonder how common that is. Has it happened to any of you guys?
--Also, I've felt incredible pain once. I was walking through my living room and a white vampire with long white hair was daring me to walk through. I did, he grabbed my foot, and bit it. My foot absolutely killed when I woke up.
--Lastly, I went to sleep once after smelling the inside of a glow stick, which was nasty. So in my dream, I'm doing something for the Mission Impossible people and there is a gas which I distintcly remember smelling in my dream.Comment

Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
Don't pay attention to the people that you meet in this dream. More than likely your brain is just filling in the gap. Placing someone there to make your dream make sense. The fact that it's mostly been people you are close to makes sense. The Little Sister is a bit of a throw off but again, this is mostly attributed to just filling in the gaps. It's possible that sometime around that night you had been playing or reading about BioShock and the image of the Little Sister stuck with you. You might even want to ask yourself if a Little Sister has ever reminded you of someone close to you. Sounds weird but it's possible.I keep having the same freaking dream over and over and over.....and it makes NO SENSE!
Im standing in the middle of my high school gym right on the logo
it's completely dark.
all the sudden a spot light turns on and someone comes up to me (its been my old coach, my best friend, a little sister from bioshock and my ex- girlfirend)
and says "you need to score" or something like that....
all the sudden the shot clock turns on and I have to find the ball and score before time runs out or I die.....I can never even find the ball!!!!
this is driving me nuts....
The dream is a creation of your stress. There is something that you feel pressured about answering or figuring out within a time constraint. The shot clock mirrors this time period. The game is the result of your stress. Dreams have a tendency of trying to make an "evil" (that thing that's truly bothering you) into a better thing you can handle. In this case, basketball is that thing you feel at ease being able to handle such pressure.
There is a lot going on in your life right now so it's not too difficult to place some of the stress on that. You should consider the things that are pressuring you and figure which of those things you've placed a time constraint on. Maybe not purposely, but somehow there is one.
I'd guess the pregnancy. Since pregancy has a 9-month time period, you might be pressuring yourself to do something within those nine-months to achieve a specific goal. Have you recently thought about doing something for your child or girlfriend/wife that you hope to get done before the child is born?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
I have recurring dreams about the Orioles. A few weeks ago, I had a dream they traded for Pat Burrell and David Bell. Last night, I had a dream that Bedard was getting shelled.
I also have dreams like that about basketball. Most of the time, I'm completely uncoordinated in the dream. I can't stay on my feet or dribble, I'm always falling down and can't do anything. Sometimes I actually can do that and shoot normally and everything, it's weird.
A few years ago I had a dream 3 nights in a row that it was me and Lloyd Banks against Young Buck in a gunfight.Comment

Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
I'm extremely fascinated by dreams and read about them, study of them, whatever whenever I get the chance.
I personally believe that all dreams have a deeper connection, no matter what it is you're dreaming about. Some are fun, some are trying to make it easier for you to cope with a fear, some are just downright scary. But they serve a meaning.
The ones I find the easiest to analyze are similar to 24th's dream (and yes I'm no expert but I've done the analyzing thing for years now and while it's only my opinion on a dream I've found that most of the time the dreamer agrees with my thoughts). Anyway, the freefalling type dreams are strange to me.
I don't know if it's that people don't remember anything else about them that makes it difficult (and how can I expect you to when you're falling? That's pretty much the only thing you're "consciously" aware of during the dream) or if I just have no clue. Probably more the latter since again I'm no expert so I won't pretend to be.
I'll give it a shot, though, basing it only on falling which I don't think is enough information. The only thing I can attribute to this type of dream is a lack of control. Falling is one of those things that a person just can't stop unless they land. You can stop typing, you can jump in the air and land, you can walk around. If you're falling, there's no control. I believe that's the biggest fear of falling because you probably wouldn't think about how you'll die. It's more like, "I can't stop this."
So with that in mind, I can only ask if during the times you've had these freefalling dreams did you ever feel like you were recently in a situation that was out of your hands? Or if you feared that someone might make a decision that you couldn't control? It could be as simple as interviewing for a job and constantly thinking about it. "I did everything in that interview, right? Yea. I was nice. I was direct. I have a great background. But it doesn't matter. There's other applicants. The interviewer will decide. I can't do anything about it anymore." Some people might have a fear that they can't control this outcome and it's a legit fear. Again, though, it could be anything. Every fear is different from one person to the next."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
Now that I think about it yes. I have another one for you. Someone holding people captive and you have to find them in a maze of a house that looks like it's from a movie with Chucky in it and strange things happen in the house and yet time expires and you find no one and the dream stops there.

Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
Yankee I have 2 Dreams every Month that are the same every Month I have them. I will explain 1 at a time. I am in a Bunk bed(top bunk) and I see my dad in the bathroom from my bed.(This is at my old house) The next thing I remember is that there are Snakes every where. On the ceiling, the floor, my bed and the walls just slithering around. You cant see anything but Snakes. Then they all stop and turn towards me. Then they all move towards me at the same time and then I wake up but I am not really awake but I think I am and the same thing happends again. I remember it did it about 6 times in a row once. It usually happends 3 to 4 times in a row. Can you explain anything about that dream at all. I just dont know why it keeps happening. I am 18 now and it has happended to me every month since I was 13.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: Ever have a reoccouring dream?
I used to have a dream when I was a little kid that I was sitting in the back seat of a car and I am on the highway and there's no one driving the car. The car is driving itsself. Then I open the door while we're on the highway and the dream ends.
I also had dreams where I was being kidnapped or held down or something and all of a sudden I lost my voice. I was trying to scream for help but I had no voice. Sometimes I'd wake up with tears in my eyes because I got so scared.Last edited by dharrisfan2003; 01-19-2008, 02:39 AM.Comment
