Re: North Carolina weather forecasts stink
Accuweather is usually the most reliable IMO, but for Saturday's storm they predicted 3.6 inches of snow for High Point, but we only got an inch. Everybody missed it on this storm.Comment

when i was a manager in tucson, i had half my staff and most of my drivers call off because we got 1/4 of an inch of snow. the stores were bare, the roads were empty, and the mayor was ready to declare a state of emergency.Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Yeah I find them the most accurate, with the weather channel being the worst.Comment

Re: North Carolina weather forecasts stink
People at my job told me about that storm of Jan. 2005... People who normally had 30 minute commutes into the office were either stuck, or it took them like 6 hours to get home... Last year, they predicted some kind of winter storm, and the office closed. I happened to be off that day, and didn't even know the office had been closed until the next day when I went to work... People were anticipating some kind of storm, all the supermarkets were packed with people stocking up enough goods for like 3 weeks... I was laughing the whole time... During the day, I was out driving around, like it was nothing... It's funny, really.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: North Carolina weather forecasts stink
They predicted 1-3 inches of snow for my area. I've got about as much snow as you'd expect on the African plain. They are terrible in forecasting snow in North Carolina. They had reporters spread thruout the state all day reporting basically that it was raining. Breaking in between regular telecasts to tell us this amazing, earth-shattering news.
I remember one year, 2000 I think, we were one year removed from a predicted 1-2 inch dusting that turned into a record blizzard. This time, they said we were due for a foot & it ended up being literally partly cloudy.
They have no idea how to predict snow here.President of the Devils Den

Re: North Carolina weather forecasts stink
I remember in elementary school, school was cancelled because forcasts were calling for 100% of about half a foot of snow. It ended up being like 50 degrees and sunny the next day, with no clouds at all...Comment

Re: North Carolina weather forecasts stink
That's the excuse this time. What about the other times? Unforseen blizzards? Predicted blizzards that turn into sunny mildly cool days? There's something wrong when you say 90% chance & then get the complete opposite. They can't get it here.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: North Carolina weather forecasts stink
Haha, yeah I was thinking the same thing here in High Point. They're saying a little moisture will ride over the cold air resulting in a little freezing drizzle before it changes over to plain old rain in the afternoon. Somehow, it will probably blow up into this huge storm and this great area of frigid air descend upon us and we get a huge blizzard. It's unlikely, but I wouldn't say I'd be surprised if it happened.Comment

Re: North Carolina weather forecasts stink
I remember the snowstorm in 2003 in January in Nashville. The weather people said 3-5 inches of snow expected. We ended up getting a foot of snow. They didn't even close down school because they can't close school on a prediction of snow only if it is actually snowing before school. Let me just say I was happy it snowed, but I wasn't happy when it took me over 2 hours to get home on a commute that usually takes 10-15 minutes.Comment

Not talking about the other times just this time. They couldn't help how the weather didn't come together this time. They aren't the Wizard of OZ behind the curtain stirring the pot, and at the last moment not letting the cold air get here for the right mix to get nailed.President of the Devils Den
