I see tons of stupid people in the Chicago area just as in New York. Sure, New York is probably technically worse, but they're pretty much the same traffic wise. If you are smart enough to not drive like an idiot with buds in your ears, or on your cellphone, you can usually tell who these people are and react before there's an accident. At least that's been my experience. I've had these ******s almost hit me, but because I'm not too stubborn to slow down when they change lanes without looking, I let them into my lane, and avoid an accident. It usually takes two to cause an accident when both cars are moving.

I've only driven in NY, MA, PA, and Miami, FL and outside of the dumb person that backed into me in PA while we were both driving (what an idiot too. She just stops her car and reverses. I hit the brakes and start honking my horn and she has no clue. Moron.), people in NY just don't care when they switch lanes. They don't care at all.
I realize you see this everywhere but I'm just speaking from my experience. There is no such thing as a signal light or courtesy for a driver next to you. It also seems like they don't undertsand that there are rear seats and a rear bumper in their car because they attempt to switch lanes in situations that a smart person should know would mean damage to a vehicle.
And as a result, you need to be extra smart and cautious because braking for them also means that the person behind you needs to brake in time so they don't run into you.
That's also not mentioning the many times I've had to swerve out of a lane to avoid a collision with an idiot driver all while needing to be aware of who's on my left so I don't hit them.
Driving sucks and in NYC it's just better to take mass transportation."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Is it illegal to.....
I have a zune, and tried the FM transmitter but there was so much static no matter which station I chose it was virtually unlistenable. I think there are just too many stations around here, since we can pick up Philly and NY.
I have recently started listening to podcasts on my way to and from work since espn920 went off the air and I can't listen to WIP. Thanks for the heads up it is illegal, but I have no idea why I would be more likely to get into an accident listening to podcasts than I would be with my radio cranked...I definitely listen to music much louder than podcasts on the mp3 player.Comment

Yea, true. It's just frustrating to drive and have to always be aware for people making bad decisions on the road.

I think it's stupid to have both in your ears, but I don't know.
What I hate is the people who have dogs in their laps but I never hear anyone getting a ticket for it. They are as much of a distraction as a cell phone or an iPod.Comment

Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Is it illegal to.....
If this is illegal, it's just another pointless law made by people looking for work to do. There is no harm in listening to an ipod at a reasonable volume while driving. If a cop was able to have a conversation and not notice the earbuds, then they obviously aren't as sound restrictive as people want to make them out to be.Comment

Re: Is it illegal to.....
If you want your ipod to work just like a cd changer in the car then invest in one of these: http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/...arch=ida+x-001
It's worth it imo...perfect sound quality, easy to use, and looks great.Comment
