In the State of Pennsylvania, anything over 30 means you have to go to a hearing where they'll give you a 15-day suspension, force you to take a special on-road exam, or both. Problem is I'm not going to be around to make the hearing. I'm at home for Spring Break and I go to college almost 3 hours away. So I'm most likely going to end up taking the 60-day license suspension for not attending my hearing.
I mentioned it was my second ticket. I got my first a little over a year ago for doing 59 in a 40.... on the same road!
I got 4 points on my license for that. Then, I got 3 points knocked off when I went a year with no infractions. So, of course, this new ticket will cost me 5 points on my license, bringing my total to 6. Having accumulated 6 points, I have to take a written examination within 30 days. If I pass it within 30 days, I get 2 points knocked off my license and no suspension. If I dont pass it within 30 days, I get my license suspended until I pass it... but it looks like I'm going to be taking a 60-day suspension anyhow for the excessive speed, being that I'm most likely not going to be able to make a hearing.
The police officer was kind of strange. I didn't have anywhere to really pull off. So I took an exit ramp with a stop-sign at the bottom. I stopped at the stop-sign, let some traffic go by, then got on the road and pulled off to the side then. He got out of his car, came up to my window, and yelled at me for not remaining stopped at the stop-sign at the bottom of the exit ramp. It was a one-lane exit ramp with ZERO shoulder (it just had a wall on either side). Had I stayed at the bottom, someone could have very easily rammed the back of the cop car. He was like "How long have you been driving?... 4 years and you dont know to stop at a stop-sign? Did you take your driver's test?" I just said "I'm sorry, sir. I didn't think I was supposed to stop at the bottom of a one lane exit ramp." "Well, do you watch COPS?" he said. I was just like "uh, no." Do I watch COPS? What kind of question is that? He also asked if I was a fire-fighter since I was in such a hurry. He even questioned my friend in the passengers seat as to why he let me drive so fast.
I dunno... I'm just a little peeved... at myself mainly. I dont know what I'm going to do about these hearings and tests.
Anyone have any experience with this? In PA or not?
