This all stems from Myspace (big shocker there). The kids lured a teen to their house and beat the living hell out of her with the plan to post it on Youtube to further embarrass the victim.

The mother of one of the attackers says the blame should be on the victim for saying inappropriate things on the internet.

So thoughts?

It is easy to always blame the parents (especially the stupid one in this video), but sometimes there is a birth defect and good, decent people give birth to a true sociopath. I surmise to the fine members of this site, the child who came up with this idea is a true sociopath.

nah, i disagree. yeah there are some crazy people. however, if you're taught strong morals and values, things like this rarely happen. I know if i was the father of the victim, i'd be kicking some teenage ***.

I remember when I was a kid, my friend lured the paperboy into the house and he hit him over the head with a Stretch Monster. It almost knocked him out cold, there he lay moaning and barely moving in the doorway. And there we stood with a look of terror on our faces. Luckily cooler heads prevailed and we helped the kid up sat him on the couch and got him some ice for the back of his head and bribed him with some star wars memorabilia to not tell his parents. But had we not been people of good conscience, who knows what could have happened to the paperboy.

Some kids are just heinous. I grew up in a small to medium sized town and can't tell you enough stories of humiliation. Junior high was the worst, it was 6th through 8th grade. Well some of the 8th graders had been held back. Imagine being 11 years old in gym class with some kids that were 14 and 15 years old. Couple that with our Gym teacher was a WWII vet that had been held captive by the Japanese who got a kick out of some of the "pranks" and it made life very difficult. I saw a kid stripped down and locked inside a gym locker which he literally was stuffed in. You couldn't let him out or the same would happen to you. He was in there almost 50 minutes.

The problem is when you see stupid & heinous things everyday, it just becomes the norm. This my space, you tube, internet stuff has just made people numb to it. I think people have always been heinous, now you just hear about it more, and they also have a larger forum to broadcast their garbage to now. On top of that there is so much stupid stuff out there to see that kids can get ideas in their head that they may not have thought up if left to their own devices. On top of that, now they can see the most extreme acts on video and human nature is always to press the envelope whether it be for good or evil so no instead of trying to one up the local bully, you are trying to one up the entire country.

I might be crazy and have some crazy thoughts, I'm sure most do. However the difference is actually going through with said crazy thoughts, which is something I am uncapable of.

MySpace, Facebook, Friendster, YouTube, alot of this crap is causing stupid, irrational people to become even more so. No one can have a conversation anymore, no one can communicate or speak with out "one-upping" someone else. Instead of picking up the phone and calling someone, we post ghey little myspace messages.

THe fact that this was pre-meditated and planned to be posted in a public venue is just sick....

I agree with MassNolw, the parents can't be blamed all the time. You can teach good morals all you want it doesn't mean that the kid is going to listen.

I agree with MassNolw, the parents can't be blamed all the time. You can teach good morals all you want it doesn't mean that the kid is going to listen.

No, parents can't be blamed all the time, but I would contend most of the time. Some people are just rotten to the core, genetics perhaps? Chemical imbalance, perhaps? Parents can't really do a whole lot with them.

But I think most people are born relatively neutral to good. With the proper nurturing, they will have good moral character. I think alot bad childhood behavior stems from a lack of parental attention and direction. Little kids are basically naughty for attention. If they continue to not get any attention or direction their naughty behavior as a child escalates into heinous and evil behavior as an adolescent. I would imagine that a child gets little to no attention has very little self worth and they will either take that out by abusing themselves or try to get recognition by abusing others. So I would say that bad parenting, especially in the formative year is the root to most, but not all of this heinous behavior.

On the positive side, the fact that it was premeditated and video taped should get the kids 6-18 months.

Wow, I just saw the video on another NBC site, and it made me almost physically sick. I was expecting a female version of the "drunk macho male" fighting where two people confront each other yelling, push each other a bit, and maybe a punch or two. Instead, it's a girl screaming for mercy while 8 people sit there and pummel her.

Enjoy prison. I hear that's what's really hood these days.

And I think my estimate of 6-18 months is a little light. That was from 2 experiences with people I knew on first degree assault. Seems to me the prosecutors could run wild with some depraved indifference and temp murder.
