On the positive side, the fact that it was premeditated and video taped should get the kids 6-18 months.

Wow, I just saw the video on another NBC site, and it made me almost physically sick. I was expecting a female version of the "drunk macho male" fighting where two people confront each other yelling, push each other a bit, and maybe a punch or two. Instead, it's a girl screaming for mercy while 8 people sit there and pummel her.

Enjoy prison. I hear that's what's really hood these days.

And I think my estimate of 6-18 months is a little light. That was from 2 experiences with people I knew on first degree assault. Seems to me the prosecutors could run wild with some depraved indifference and temp murder.

I don't think you'd be able to prove the intent necessary to get to attempted murder. You need to show beyond a reasonable doubt that they intended to kill the girl, and from the facts we know right they intended to beat her and post it on YouTube, not kill her. It is a shame you can't make this a hate crime though, because honestly that beating was more vicious than some I've seen that have elevated to the hate crime level.

Humanity has been screwed up since it existed, it's nothing new. Kids have been beating other kids up for millenniums, adults murdering each other for millenniums, people causing mindless violence over nothing for millenniums.

It's not so much "what's wrong with children today?", it's "what's wrong with humanity in general, and why have we been this way for millenniums?"

but ask your parents, theyll tell you about times when they didnt have to lock thier door or have ADT,CPI monitoring thier house...

You don't seem to get my point. My point is violence has always been around - just in different forms. Sure - people will talk about what they didn't have to do back in certain times - but there was still crime, just in different forms.

You're going to tell me that in the mid 1800's to mid 1900's the KKK didn't exist, and didn't mindlessly murder black people just because they were black, and ravage black communities? Sure, people will tell you how safe they felt back then, but there was just as much violence - it was just in different forms and from different sources.

It wasn't any safer back then than it is now, it just takes different forms.

It's all parenting. And if you don't think so, you're probably not one. And you really won't understand what I'm saying until you are one.

Since becoming one, and seeing how my son interacts with other children, and how their parents, "Parent", I can already see kids as young as 2 who are headed in the wrong direction.....and it's not even their fault.

Parenting is hard work, 100% committment, and it's not easy. Selfish people don't make good parents. I see it almost every day now, and I never would've even noticed before I was a parent myself.

Parenting is hard work, 100% committment, and it's not easy. Selfish people don't make good parents. I see it almost every day now, and I never would've even noticed before I was a parent myself.

I'd look at some kids and just think, dang those kids are going to be hellians when they grow up. I switched daycares to a Christian daycare. Night and day difference. Not implying anything here, just an observation that the children at the new daycare are much better mannered and I haven't had 1 incident report. The parents here actually seem happy to see their children. It makes a huge difference.

I had an eerily similar experience. My child is in a much better place. And it's true, after seeing the parents...I understood.

I don't see how not being a parent means you can't understand how important parenting is, most of us on here have probably been raised by parents and we've all been children so we know what goes on. Parents can only do so much and you can have the best parents in the world but if your kids don't listen then it doesn't matter how you raised them and/or how many beatings you gave.

I agree parents can only do so much. I have seen brothers raised the same way, one turn to drugs and crime and the other graduate from college. Not every person who does bad things had parents just like how not every person who is succesful had good childhood and parents who were there. You hear those stories all the time.

Not every person who does bad things had parents just like how not every person who is succesful had good childhood and parents who were there. You hear those stories all the time.

Sure, but I guarantee the kid that has good parents has an infinitely greater possibility of turning out good than a kid with worthless or neglectful parents. The kid with good parents can elect to make bad choices, but most likely its a choice. A kid with bad, worthless, neglectful parents does heinous things because they fully don't understand the consequences of their actions and they haven't been exposed on a consistant basis to good moral decision making. In other words, a kid with heinous parents most likely will do heinous things because "They Don't Know No Better".
