Carlin is my hero; I agree with basically every viewpoint he has. I wouldn't be surprised if the quote was his, I just can't remember where I heard it.

I don't think I've ever rooted against legalizing marijuana, in fact, I don't know if I've ever talked about it on OS. I could be wrong though; I don't remember everything I say. I will say though that I am 100% in support of legalizing marijuana, as well as the majority of drugs (for various reasons, but that's a topic for another thread).

you see i find that logic ironic sense in actuality you are following what your parents and society told you "just because". im forming my own opinion about it and basing my decisions on these so called "cursing words". if i don't feel offended by them then why should i pretend?

are you sure your not agreeing with me? i still don't get why people say im going against society when i agree with there ideas if there are legitimate reasons behind it. why cursing words are what they are have no legitimate reasons. you can say well why do we think hitting women is wrong and the legitimate reason is because it hurts them. since you have felt pain before you would know that it is not right to do it to others.

cursing words are just words people deemed to be offensive and everyone else went along with it. the fact that we have the freedom of speech except when it dangers others is further proof that we should not care about what words others use and yet we do. i don't.

There are 4-5 year olds that are stealing, beating other kids up and worse. And they got it from nowhere but their own minds.

I didn't have to have my moms stress to me to say thank you or open doors. I did that stuff naturally. Because I felt it was the right or nice thing to do.

We're getting off topic here, but are you telling me that that 4 or 5 year old is stealing and his parents know about it and are repremanding him, but he keeps on doing it? If this is the case, why would his parents leave him alone anywhere where this could be a possibility?

If he stealing from kids at school, wouldn't the parents check his pockets every day when he gets home? If you're telling me there is a 4 or 5 year old clepto, the obviously the parents aren't doing their job.

They may get the idea from somewhere, but it's up to the parents to put an end to it. Kids will pick up stuff everywhere, they are sponges. Is it not the parents idea to make sure know the difference between what is right and wrong? If your kid steals because he saw someone else steal, are you telling me that your son is then just a predetermined theif and that there is nothing you can do to change that?

While it may be the right thing to do to open doors, these things are learned traits. Maybe you're the outlier here, but people naturally aren't going to randomly start opening doors for strangers unless they see others do it. Kids don't say please and thank you on their own, at least any kid I've ever met. These are all learned traits...if not from parents, then from someone the kids look up to and view as a postive figure.

Maybe we'll just agree to disagree here, but I don't believe that kids don't pick up on these things from others, namely the people who they are around the most; their parents or guardians. And I also don't believe that the parents can't correct this behavior.

To be honest, doesn't bother me. If they are not directing obsenities at me, who am I to tell someone what they can and can't say? Because I don't agree with it doesn't give me the right to push my will on someone elses personal freedom. Agree or disagree with what they say or how they are acting, it's personal freedom that makes this country great.

Is it inconsiderate, certainly, is it something that I put a lot of thought in to? No. I usually just head the other direction. I am certainly not going to get in to a confrontation over profanity. Like somehow violence is the lesser of the two evils.

BK, I couldn't agree with you more. It bothers me how people can't allow others to have different viewpoints on things. I generally attempt to avoid swearing around other people in public and if it is not in the context of a story or something. However, if someone wants to go around swearing all the time (or doing something that really bothers me), I just ignore them and allow them to make a fool of themselves.
