Then you should really hate these cops.

There's absolutely no reason to beat them once they've been arrested. All of those people should lose their job and face assault charges, if not temp murder. If the evidence for the beating was so sound, the people they beat would probably be doing a nice 15+ year trip in the finest of state facilities. There's no reason to beat them; they've now just made more people dislike the police. Instead of apprehending 3 shooters and getting good press, they've done a complete 180.

the way i see it the cuffs werent on them yet and they were struggling, its resisting arrest.

Less than a week ago a cop was shot in responce to a bank robbery. Cops are on edge because this is the 2nd cop killing 6 months and 3rd in 2 years. Now you have 3 armed suspects sure there may be a couple cops who threw some extra kicks for good measure but you know what it was drug dealing murdering scum so who gives a ****. Not me. again if they stopped in the first place and dropped their weapons. noone gets beatdown. if they dont make drug deals and shoot at people, they dont get beat down, why don't people look at what this freakin scum did before they start coming down on cops, many of whom have been working overtime and havent slept since saturday because so many resourses were being used to find a bank robbing cop killer. I dont blame them for being edgy and even a bit frustrated. (Note: that scum was found last night)

I don't understand why there can't be a middle ground.

Some of you act like it shouldn't have happened and to me that shows your ignorance to the situation.

But some of you act like there wasn't a point where some of the cops in question beyond what they should have.

Why does it have to be "Good. I'm glad these pieces of scum were beat?" You're no better than the pieces of scum you're talking about.

And why does it have to be "All those cops went way too far. Damn pigs!" Put yourself in that situation where these guys might be armed and you have to arrest them.

There's a line somewhere in between and I don't understand why more don't see it.

            Re: Cop beatdown in Philly....

Some of it looked out of sort but to be honest, we weren't there so we don't know what the offenders were doing...if they were resisting and not giving the officer's their arms to be cuffed, they're gonna catch a beat down.

Also you gotta figure in the totality of the situation...if these guys are suspected of just being involved in a shooting, esp. that of a fellow police officer, of course the officers who get to them are going to be a) pissed off and emotional to the high hill and b) their adrenaline is going to be pumping like you wouldn't believe. Trust me I know. I remember when we did scenarios in a controlled environment in the Academy with red guns and fellow students and instructors...your instincts and adrenaline take over. I was surprised to see how I reacted and to see how far some of them actually went, people acted totally different than in other situations.

Could they have handled it better? Probably. Do I feel bad for the scum they beat down? Hell no. I don't know, maybe I can just reason with their actions more since I'm a Police Officer and understand what they have to deal with.

I think I'm middle ground, I definitely see both sides of this. I just lmao that the cops would do this when a damn helicopter is right over your heads.

They pulled all three dudes out of the car and just began throwing blows.. if you can't see that then

You see that yes but what you also don't see is the actions of the suspects...the officers don't know if they have weapons, they probably aren't just giving up easily, and like I said earlier your adrenaline is pumping and sometimes you don't think clearly esp. in a situation like this.

I think that a few may have gone to far with the stomps, however, i still dont blame them, they are human, they work in an already stressful environment, and with the manhunt for a cop killer going on at that point (tuesday night) most cops hadnt slept since saturday, they were working overtime covering for how many cops were involved with searching for the cop killer. throw in the fact that they know for a fact that they are dealing with armed suspects. throw on top of your average criminal and what they would say to a police officer trying to arrest them. I'm not surprised that they scum got beat down. I have no problem with the force used. or the night sticks used to subdue the suspects. the couple officers running back and forth to get extra kicks in was excessive. thats it though. but they should have been thrown to the ground hard and their arms beaten so they couldn't grab for any weapons.

I see what you mean buy middle ground, but i have sympathy for the police, I know what a rotting cesspool they have to work in and they type of animals with no regard for human life, and definately no respect for the badge that they have to deal with every single day. In ways i consider myself fortunate that when i applied to become a cop, something else a little safer and convienent as far as hours are concerned opened up for me at similar pay. But had that not happened iw ould be on the force and wouldnt regret the decision at all. If I were to get layed off i would take the police test again and go do that. God knows we need more of them out there in this city.

one of the officers just went from suspect to suspect beating them. Like he was taking turns beating each one. Looked like a free for all. It's hard to say what is justified and what isn't from a video with no audio. Hard to tell what the suspects were doing as far as resisting goes.

                          Re: Cop beatdown in Philly....

I don't think the suspects were doing much resisting at all, especially considering there was 3-4 officers on each one.

I find this very excessive and disturbing. I don't care if they fled the murder scene or what. It's not like they led the cops on a high speed chase or got out shooting at the cops. They still pulled over to the side of the road where the cops proceeded to drag each one out and beat the hell out of them. What's the problem with just disarming them and arresting them?

Criminals are supposed to be punished by the courts, not the police. Police should only use the amount of force necessary when dealing with stuff like this. If these guys had started beating down a cop or something and the other officers jumped in and kicked their butts, that'd be fine by me.

-1 for police-minority relations...This just a week after the cops walk for the murder of Sean Bell.

I tend to agree more with this perspective. I think everything except for the high speed chase.. I deduced that the suspects led the cops for a little bit in a chase before stopping.
