Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
You must have had some really bad experiences with waiters because I've been out to eat plenty of times and from my experience it isn't close to 50/50 for receiving bad service. I'd say probably 80+% of the time the service is fine, which is why I go ahead and figure on tipping before I walk in the restaurant. If the service is absolutely horrible then yeah, I probably wouldn't tip, but I haven't had that happen before.Comment

As far as your wording of "precious 3 or 4 bucks" it is to many of them precious. You think serving at an Outback or Chili's is a career choice? Or maybe they are doing it to make ends meet? There are 3 types of people in the world those who understand math and those who don't.Comment

Man that precious thing wasn't meant in jest. A big reason I made the thread and have this outlook is because I don't have much in my account. Just a college student living from check to check..Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I work at Baskin and while a tip is never expected, I always give excellent service despite the *******s I have to deal with every single day. I work in Encino too, so people in LA can imagine just how bad the people I have to deal with are.
I only really get upset when I'm filling out a 20, 30 dollar non-cake order, spending so much damn time on it, and they don't leave anything. Like I said, not that I expect it, but it's just a way to show appreciation from the customer's end.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
As a former waiter, I was always thrilled when someone left me a good tip. When I saw those people later, it was a very good experience and it also brings a good vibe to the workplace. When someone left a bad tip, everyone knew about it and it got people down.
Plus, a tip is always reasonable because it's based off the price of your meal. If you put down 35 for dinner, it's not like 5-7 bucks is going to hurt your pocket that much. If it is, go get some McDonald's and keep your precious 5-7 bucks to yourself.
It really is common courtesy. At least leave an average tip, don't not tip at all. That's just an ******* move.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
No, the tip should be expected because these people are making less then half of what minimum wage is. Your tip is the other half of their minimum wage. So at the very least leave 3 bucks of your precious money.

If I lived in a state that didn't pay servers minimum wage, I would tip every meal. But apparently CA minimum wage applies to eateries too.
The fact that I live in a state that pays servers minimum wage means I can use my own discretion and not feel too bad if I chose not to leave extra.Comment

I honestly don't know how many times I have to repeat this:

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
Also, a couple weeks ago, I was out with my cousins at a cousin dinner.. and our waiter was just not attentive, and he was crabby. It made for awkward moments.. yet I still tipped him. I didn't want to tip him, but my cousins [girls] were like "VINNNCE" in a real nagging voice.. so I obliged and tipped. Anyway I felt like I was violated being that I have limited funds. So from that night on I decided that I'm going with a new outlook on tipping. Before that night, I had always been a "double the tax" customer. Now I'll be using a little more judgement.
Edit: Here's the article:
When it comes to tipping, LeBron goes Scrooge McDuck
Published: May 7, 2008
We are all witnesses. But not everything about the LeBron is worth witnessing. Sure, he has the $400,000 car, Jay-Z in his corner, and Phil Knight wrapped around his diamond pinkie ring. But witness how His Greatness treats the little people, and you may begin to see the virtue of Brendan Haywood's hard fouls.
One of LeBron's favorite places to dine is XO Prime Steaks on West Sixth. Its mix of swank drinks and delicately massaged beef allows the Chosen One to consume calories worthy of his royal digestive system. All of which is swell - except that LeBron is among Cleveland's stingiest tippers.
According to a Punch source, a peer recently quit after tiring of LeBron going Scrooge McDuck on his @!#.
It went down like this: LeBron pulls up in his Mercedes outside XO. People stop and try not to stare, but c'mon, it's LeBron James. He enters the restaurant with a group of friends. On this special occasion, the King decides to dine late. He keeps his group there until around 3:45 a.m. During this time the waiter obsequiously pours drinks and fetches anything else His Greatness needs.
The final bill comes to $800. By the feudal laws of decorum, which stipulate that the affluent should administer a 20 percent gratuity, staffers figured they'd be pocketing an extra $160. But when they fetched the autographed bill after His Heinousness bolted back to Akron, their expectation turned to disbelief, then anger.
LeBron stiffed them with a meager $10 tip. This is what French nobles like to call your requisite Bourgeois !*%@@-Slap. The waiter wouldn't even take it, tired of being @#%% on by guys like LeBron.
Still, at least the self-proclaimed King of Ohio didn't pull a Bernie Kosar - who gets sloshed at the bar and then has to remind the waiters of who he is before he stiffs them.

Lebron might be bad but he'll never be the atrocious tipper that Scottie Pippen is.As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment
