Re: Is it possible to lose 10lbs a month?

Either that or he lost 75 lbs in 6 months, which is crazy-impressive. Doesn't sound like a bad diet at all really... I normally eat like that for the most part. I gotta stop ruining it with desserts and eating out... salmon cooked with asparagus in a foil wrap and some brown rice would work for me most nights.

I need to get a stationary bike or an elliptical-type machine for cardio -- I am so bad about going to the gym, I just need exercise in my own house.

Re: Is it possible to lose 10lbs a month?

I have scheduling problems with my wife being in school and having the kids so that killed my workouts. That's the reason im starting square one again, so im cool on the weights right now.

Salmon is one of my favorite foods, but how does eating so much fish directly affect your cholesterol?

BTW, anyone have any knowledge on if Equal is okay to use instead of sugar in say a bowl of wheaties or something. Im just looking well into the matter.

This came out a few months ago:

In a study by researchers at Purdue University it was found that rats fed on artificial sweetener still gained weight and the findings have puzzled scientists.

The researchers suspect that a sweet taste followed by no calories may make the body crave extra food; they say that rats fed sugar had lower appetites.

The Purdue University researchers say the data clearly indicated that consuming a food sweetened with no-calorie saccharin can lead to greater body-weight gain.

Nutritionists disagree and say as part of a calorie controlled diet, artificial sweeteners can help people lose weight or keep it off.

The Purdue study does however show otherwise.

Rats given yogurt sweetened with sugar or with saccharin and then offered a plentiful supply of food, found that the saccharin-fed mice ate more calories, put on more fat, and gained more weight than their sugar-fed counterparts.

What is more they did not make any attempt to cut back on their food later to regulate their weight.

The researchers suggest that consuming a food sweetened with no-calorie saccharin helped prime the metabolism for the arrival of a calorie-heavy, sweet meal into the digestive system; the body then becomes confused and has difficulty regulating the appetite when other food is around.

They say if this is so, other low-calorie sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose and acesulfame could have a similar effect.

A recent review of the scientific literature by scientists at the Center for Public Health Nutrition at the University of Washington concluded that low-calorie or no-calorie sweeteners may be of help in resolving the obesity problem.

That study evaluated a variety of laboratory, clinical and epidemiological studies on low-calorie sweeteners, energy density and satiety and the findings are based on extensive studies with humans.

Several studies conducted in humans have shown that low-calorie sweeteners and the products that contain them can be useful tools in weight control.

Critics say the study is based on 27 rats and not humans and findings in animal studies are not necessarily applicable to humans and the suggestion that low-calorie sweeteners actually cause people to gain weight is irresponsible.

Health experts agree that weight loss is best achieved by a combination of reducing caloric intake, lowering energy density of the diet, and increasing physical activity, and low-calorie sweeteners do help.

The research is published in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience.
According to the latest research from the U.S. artificial sweeteners can lead to greater body-weight gain.

Re: Is it possible to lose 10lbs a month?

I actually lost 19 pounds in less than four weeks just recently. I was at 237 for the longest time trying to abide by the "eat 5,000+ cals per day" mentality and all this other nonsense, which I had been doing for roughly two years. I wasn't losing the fat around my stomach/lower abs and my performance on the basketball court was also starting to slip since my college playing weight was 210-212.

So I decided to start eating 2,400 cals per day with very little carbs. I lost a noticeable amount of fat around my mid section and abs and stepped on the scale at the gym last week and to my surprise I was all the way down to 219.

I haven't lost any muscle, feel way lighter on my feet on the court and look much better w. my shirt off.

I have an insane metabolism and am a large human being which helps a ton. I also took about 4 weeks off because of a knee injury so maybe that resting period allowed me to shock my body when I started working out again to see more substantial fat loss. Plus I ate very lightly/cautiously when I was sidelined those 4 weeks with the knee injury.

Thanks Brandon but im not sure if that helps. using a packet of equal or splenda in a bowl of cereal a couple of times a week would have you eating more?

No, once you get to where you want to be, you can start to "cheat" a little bit. You just get so used to eating healthy that sweets taste too sweet. Really, you shouldn't go on a diet, you need an entire lifestyle change to lose alot of weight and keep it off. I lost 75lbs in 5 months. 150 days, 1/2 lb a day.

5 months? good lord! Congrats man

Im saying diet but i do mean change my way of eating. Im not really used to where i am right now because i was always working out or in the least playing basketball or walking alot. I plan to maintain what im trying to do because i love doing things like such consistently.

Going to start running the sand dunes starting tomorrow(you can ask people who live in LA about that). Im not sure that would equal your 10 miles but it'll have to do for now.

what are you trying to lose for DRE?

I remember a time where I virtually HAD to get rid of 10 pounds in a two week deadline...this is what I did...

                  - got a colonic (lol hey man this really is good for you)
                  - drunk NOTHING but water
                  - protein shake for breakfast
                  - chicken salad for lunch
                  - mostly salmon\baked chicken for dinner
                  - excercised\ played ball HARD 3 nights of each week

                  and I lost 10 pounds 185-175
                  thats really short term though...

                    Definitely.

Contest at work...I lost 50 lbs(to the ounce!) in exactly 2 months 1 week. The last 6 were a bitch and all water weight(I was dying!)...I went from 274 to 224 from January 10th to March 17th.
It certainly can be done...once it starts coming off, you can practically feel your body eating away at itself.
Healthy? No friggin way! Especially if you plan on gaining it back like I did. Just wanted that contest...yep I won.

                        Knight, what did you do?

24th, As I said, my workouts had to stop cold turkey once my wife's school schedule changed. Im not in a contest or trying to fit old clothes. I can still fit them all, but as i said, the extra weight im not used to it and im disgusted with myself. I freaking hate it!

I dont like my energy level and if people are honest it doesnt feel good on the knees and feet. Im not looking for an easy way out becasue ive done this before and i know what kind of change it takes, but screw the burgers late at night and eating only out of convienience.

I cannot take it down to 160 or anything because i'd start looking sick like star jones because i just dont have that kind of body type.

a good 20-30 lbs might be good for me though.

                          Here is food for thought.

Most people don't understand that even if you are losing at a decent clip, sometime you will plateau. At this stage, you need to ramp up the exercise routine and or cut back on calories.

My point is, if a person has a good chunk of weight to lose(like myself), then you need to decrease your calories until you reach your goal. Most people lose weight between 1500-1800 calories per day.

You are not suppose to go lower than 1200 calories per day as this would put you into starvation mode.

Or increase your caloric intake for a week or two and get back into the diet. It'll help spark your metabolism again.

Im aware of the plateau. It's the same thing when you're lifting weights so its necessary to progress your workout to the next level.
