Re: Is it possible to lose 10lbs a month?

That marine hit it on the head fellas. I was going to post it but I see someone had posted it but it needs further emphasis. Muscle mass burns fat. Muscle needs calories to exist. It's always hungry so the more you got the more it burns. Cardio, in my opinion, is just a tool to give you the wind you need to help you do more weight training. All that other good stuff you guys mention is on point but you really should get the muscle on. Now you might not get the weight loss in effect because you'll be gaining muscle mass but you'll get "the look" faster than if you don't do the weight training.

And take it from me, give up the beer. Of course I type this with my 4th Corona for the night in my hand.

Re: Is it possible to lose 10lbs a month?

If you don't change your eating habits to logical ones that you can live with for the rest of your life, you're destined to fail. I'm not going to preach, but in the last 23 months I've lost nearly 100 pounds and, more importantly, at no point have I gained a single one back...and, most importantly, I've never been on a diet... just changed my diet.

      OK... quick hit tips...

      - Don't starve yourself. The body is powerful and you'll pay in the end if you don't feed the machine. Starvation burns lean muscle mass first, you need lean muscle mass to burn fat.

      - Don't deprive yourself of anything you like. If you like pizza (my weakness)... have a slice of pizza every once in while. If you deprive yourself, you'll fall off the wagon and eat an XL in one sitting. Have a slice when you want a slice. Same goes for sweets, baked goods, hell... hot dogs. Eat them if you want them... just do the work.

      - Exercise as often as you can even if it's only for 10 minutes. Weight training if possible. Cardio is great... if you're problem is your heart.... but cardio, like starvation, burns lean muscle mass. I suggest a short, short cardio warmup just to get the heart pumpin, then hit the weights.

      - Education and subtle changes make a difference. Do you know that there are 50 more calories in a soft taco at Taco Bell than a crunchy taco? Flour vs Corn. Little things add up.

      - Spice up your food. (A) it makes food more interesting (B) it kicks your metabolism up.

      - Take your measurements before you get too far in. Remember that some of the biggest improvements are made in places off the scale. Would you rather be a tight 205 or a soft 190? Measure you belly, chest, waist, arms, calves. Don't fall for the BS that is BMI. There is no ideal WEIGHT... however, carrying as little fat as possible should be the goal.

      - Don't be embarrassed to be a "dude on a diet"... because it's not a diet. But sometimes the whole "watching what I eat" or "trying to lose weight" thing is embarrassing for guys because we are competive ego-maniacs. I'm a supporter of using that to you advantage. Have a bet with other guys who need to peel some off. Let your natural male testosterone help you.

That's just a few things. In all honesty, and it's horrably cliche, but it's a marathon, not a sprint. Most experts will tell you ideal lifelong weightloss averages out to about a pound a week. That sounds unbearably long to many... but if it took you a year to lose 35 pounds... but your lifestyle changes meant it was NEVER coming back... isn't that worth it?

Seriously... feel free to hit me with a PM if you have any questions or just want to bounce anything. Again, no expert... just know what is working for me.

Back in 1995 at the age of 39 I lost 27 pounds in one month. I ate the same thing every day-2 bagels, a bowl of cereal, and two tuna sandwiches. I ran 4 miles a day.

I'm on a Keto diet which is almost identical to the Atkins diet and I feel great! When I eat carbs I feel like sleeping and being a lazy bum.

It's all about what works for you

Weight loss should take very quickly eating between 1500 calories to 1800 calories.

Gradual weight loss will occur from 1800 to 2000 calories.

You should prescribe to the plan of three meals per day and snacks that add up to close to 300 calories.

Also, you should drink 8 glasses of water per day.
            I agree

They're fine in moderation. Water should be your primary beverage by a large margin.

It's not really that bad. If you have one or two a day you'll be fine. It's drinking it constantly which leads to dehydration.

Good idea...just make sure that whatever you drink has 0 cals. Who wants to drink their cals?

Thanks Clay, Ill definitely hit you up, but how often are you around man?

stewaat...lol I felt like a pig that day, but i realized that i had to add complete meals to what i was eating like last night i had Tilapia, brocolli, and brown rice topped off with fresh strawberries for dessert.

Wasn't feeling as weak and hungry later on at night and i realized that i ate a relatively low fat meal with enough calories to maintain what i need.

I ran the sand dunes and stairs 3 times this past week and look to add to it about 4 days a week.

Oh yes, I don't plan on cutting out things like my favorite food (a steak) forever, I just want to cut down some weight first, and i think its best that i set it asidde for a time so my body can adjust.

Did you guys happen to get hungry more frequently when you decided to start eating those 5-6 meals a day?

It seems like i have certain bursts of hunger at times and even late at night which i hate with a passion, but ive been sticking to the right foods.

Its easy to lose 10lbs a month for 3-4 months, just have Crohn's disease. I lost 37 pounds in 3.5 months a few years back from it. Not good times.

I will admit I've been on weight watchers for men for the past 2 weeks and I've lost about 5 pounds so far. I've tried to cut out the beer which has been hard. I'm not extremely overweight by any means, I'm just trying to get back to my college weight.

I've lost 3-5 lbs in the past 3ish weeks just by watching what I eat better...I'm trying to get more healthy and cut out a lot of the bad snacks. You've got to give yourself a few good things, but it's really not bad. I'm also working out more and that helps a ton.

Cutting out beer should help you alot.

It's alot of work but it seems the more i do this stuff the more i want to keep doing it.

Ive dropped some weight but i refuse to be bound to the scale so I dont bother with it. My motivation is that i want to do this, I need to do this and I enjoy doing this.

Im just going to push it for a good 3 - 4 months to see if i can do my target and increase my metabolism more. The way i eat is enjoyable but its hard if you can't or dont plan your week out.

I have found that eating out with friends is the hardest. Some restuarants you just can't get anything that is really good for you.

Yeah...I've stopped doing lunch out with the coworkers mostly. I'll go once in a while, but I just don't need that massive portion burger and fries when I normally don't eat a ton at lunch. Just so many calories to burn off.

The key for me has been avoiding snacks when I'm not hungry. I don't buy many snack foods anymore, because if it's not at home then I won't eat it. I'm lazy, so I'm not gonna drive out for chips or something if I want a snack. I try and keep it to things that are a little better for me.
