Sorry to hear that, good luck finding a new job quickly.

I just interviewed to become a Bar Advocate today (private attorney who does public defender work for more $), wish me luck. So far I only have one client, but it isn't paying all that well on my sliding scale.

Bummer, dude. It will surely suck in the short term, but considering it didn't sound like you loved your job, perhaps this will lead to bigger & better things for you. I've lost several jobs (some my fault, others not) and while the unemployment route truly blows, once you find a new job, you'll be embarking on a new chapter of your journey through life. Listen to me, I sound like a damn hippie... Hang in there, man!

got two more interviews lined up. Hopefully they're not just wasting my time like previous ones.

                    Re: Being unemployed really sucks

I recently had my hours cut back at work and it sucks but I am grateful it was not worse. I went through an excruciating job hunt about a year and a half ago and just wanted to offer up some encouragement.

For you all that are interviewing please bear in mind something that is easy to forget. When in the midst of crisis it is easy to wear our burdens on the outside for the world to see. To the potential employer this comes across as a lack of confidence, self esteem and trustworthiness.

Its comparable to dating, you have to sell yourself in essence to that female in the beginning. They are meeting what is supposed to be your best foot forward. If that is non-confident, unsure, indecisive your dead in the water. Same thing pursuing a job, its a ruthless world and if you unknowingly project a defeatist mentality to the interviewer you are wasting your time.

What I had to do was convince myself the job was mine and the interview was simply a formality. This placed me in a state of mind where I projected confidence, and communicated much more easily and comfortably.

Not to get spiritual, but my adage is it is done unto you as you believe. If you dont believe in you, the universe is not gonna help you and that interviewer wont either.

Keep your heads up guys, a difficult situation does not diminish your worth or your capabilities.

How did those interviews work out? Not trying to pry, just want to hear someone having success is all.

                          Re: Being unemployed really sucks

Guys I feel for you all and am in the same boat. The worst part is that I left my job July 30th to move west with my wife so we could be closer to her family.

Now I wasn't particularly happy at my job and my wife and both figured she wouldn't have much issue finding a job. She is a vet. Regardless I got payed pretty well for what I did which was video editing and motion graphics at a Video Production Company.

We sold our house in PA and moved to my Mother-In-Laws House In Wyoming with plans to move to Colorado. We have been here since August 2nd and are still looking. Fortunately we have a place to stay but we are waering on each other and getting frustrated.

I have been doing video for 10 years and I feel like I am running into two problems. I don't have enough 3d experience for really high end work and for the low places the pay sucks. I basically had an offer in Great Falls, MT for 24k, and saw a job in Colorado Springs offering 27k. My jaw just drops to the floor. You don't have to be a genius to be a video editor but you have to know about 5-7 different programs at better than a beginner level to anything at decent quality. I am also seeing places that want you to know all the video stuff plus web design and expereince in Flash, Dreamweaver, HTML and web design. The money these guys are talking about is what I was making with almost no experience. And I can't even get interviews. It is frustrating. And don't let anyone tell you that the cost of living is cheaper out here because it isn't. Today at the supermarket I saw a 20 oz coke for $1.79.

I am considering going back to school for an IT degree and web design.

The other thing is my wife. She had to go to school for 8 years to be a vet. She is a doctor and let me tell you these vet schools are not cheap. We have seen places offering vets 40k-50 a year. Are you kidding me. Now some of them have better pay but then the benefits suck. One place had no benefits and another gives 2 weeks vacation with no sick days. If you are sick you have to use a vacation day. How do companies expect to get good people or keep there people happy when they do things like this. It really is the companies advantage right now with unemployemnt going up and up. Some of the things I see it just amazes me how companies think they are going to get good produciton when they take, take take and think they are doing there employees a favor by giving them a job. It is a 2-way street. I guess you can see I am really frsutrated right now.

Check out my site and let me know if you think it is alright because it seems that right now it's not good enough to get me a job. www.hollandedit.com

BTW, good luck to the guys looking I am pulling for you. Rant over.

It's almost hard to do, but I never take my situation into any interview. But it gets depressing after a while when you're caught in the "overqualified, underqualified" world.

It sucks even worse when you don't get a job because you're over-qualified. I've actually been told that four times in the past month and a half.

I also hate it when you ask a friend if they're doing any hiring where they work and they'll tell you no,even though they know that they're hiring. They act as if you're gonna take their job from them. I don't want to take anyones job,I just want a chance to work.

Maybe I vented a little too much. I'm just tired of getting treated like dirt because I'm not working.
