Wow, @ the number of people(with avatars/screennames I recognize) that are unemployed. Well, add me to the list. I have been so for several months. Fortunately, after I graduated college I moved back home with my parents and never got my own place since it was convenient to stay here and drive to work.

That helped me save a little bit of money so this layoff hasn't put me totally in the hole. But still, interviews are few and far between and that's really suprising considering my job experience. As hard as it is, I just have to believe God has a plan in all of this....

I dont really want to go back into corp. America, so maybe this is my chance to find something else.

Guys, I'm really sorry to hear what's going on with many of you. I work for the government so it has been stable so far. I hope I can still say that after March. Every 4 years, cities and towns have to have an election where they decide if the state is going to set your budget or if the local city gets to do that. Needless to say, having the state set your budget is not a good thing at all, especially when they're already way over budget. Since we've already put in a hiring freeze and cut our budget, the only thing left to do if the budget gets cut drastically is to lay people off, and it would be significant.

I'll say a prayer for all of you guys. Keep your chins up.

Sorry to hear about everyones job problems. Luckly being here in South Louisiana the oil field has kept us afloat. Our economy here is good. But with gas prices dropping, I am not sure how long it will last. Gas prices need to go up, I know most of yall don't wanna hear that BUT for us down here we need them to. If they climbed back up to the $2.25 mark we will be fine. But as long as they are dropping to the $1 mark we are going to be in some trouble here to.

Looks like I'm going to be a casualty in the unemployment war by then end of January. My father just talked to me for a while and said things are looking very bleak. He's always been optimistic but this was the first time he admitted it's probably time to close the doors to our business.

It sucks because we didn't anything we did wrong, 29 of our clients/accounts went out of business in 2008. Unbelievable. I guess that's a risk you take when you service the small/mid size market.

I'm probably going to move out of CT, I think Philly is my #1 choice right now. NYC is too cramped and expensive for me and I've had enough of Boston after going to school up there.

Now I just have to worry about that whole "find a new job" part.

I got some good news and bad news today.

The bad news is that I'm no longer going to be working for our company and in all likelyhood it will be closed by May.

The good news is that I can start looking for a job now and have until March or April to keep working for my father's company and keep getting paid. So I should have a smooth transition to my new job and avoid unemployment, but we'll see.

Hope all you guys can get sorted out with employment as soon as possible.

Times are hard right now, we're feeling the backlash also over this end of the world.

Actually got another gig with Cablevision.. starts Jan 7th (in a "help desk" position), but hoping it remains full time..

sorry to join this thread late.

i worked for Wells Fargo and got let go in September due to cutbacks.

I have been looking for jobs in Pittsburgh, Philly and basically anywhere near I live and cannot find anything within finance (or anything business related).

I have come to the conclusion I need to stop looking for a financial job and start looking for something that I can live off of for a couple years.

Its frustrating, but lucky for me I am single and don't have to worry about supporting a family. I truly feel bad for anyone that is going through the same thing I am but have a family to support. I wish good luck to all.

And the day of reckoning is coming for me as well as Im only seasonal right now and so I will either have a job once Christmas comes and goes or I wont, it sure will be interesting. I have supreme confidence that I will be kept but anything can and will happen so Im prepared as best as I can for anything too happen.

Man, it's getting so bad that my cousin's wife is gonna try to get me to do some filing work once a week for her. She does the financials for one of those places that provide housing and care for the disabled.
