I play basketball with a guy who was a lawyer for the biggest firm in Cleveland. He saved up his money and decided to take a year off to travel the world before he got too burned out from work. Once he was done travelling, he started looking for an attorney job again. He's been looking for a job for almost 8 months and still hasn't found anything. Kinda scary that a guy with his resume can't find anything.

Re: Being unemployed really sucks
Well I finally got a job but its commission based and in 2 months Ive made a grand 100.00 so clearly it isnt working out so Im basically back at square one, except now I spend 5 days a week praying I can make money at what Im currently doing while watching every local business under the sun pucker up and refuse to hire anyone, its getting downright scary here in Oregon right now. I actually went on an interview just to get a menial job at Lids and I didnt have enough experience apparently, considering Ive been in almost nothing but retail for the last 8+ years with 3 years of management experience Im clueless how that isnt enough experience to work at a damn hat store, another example of the ridiculous expectations that local companies have for menial jobs.Comment

Re: Being unemployed really sucks
The worst part I went through was going for jobs that were "entry level". Well that sure as hell wasn't the case when some mid-30s businessmen with plenty of experience were hired. I was so ticked. These jobs weren't even great paying! I'm going to make about 10% more as a cop!Comment

Re: Being unemployed really sucks
Ya my mom is dealing with this, she's been unemployed since last December and has had a whopping 3 interviews for project management jobs.
It sucks for alot of people that are either over qualified or dont have the experience for a certain business despite having 30+ years of project management. She doesnt have a degree but when she learned all of her programming, it wasn't required but now it is so that hurts as most want a degree to brag.
It'll be nice when the market picks back up.. who knows when
I'm lucky though that I haven't been laid off like my Mom was, it's rough when you're hunting and don't have a job currently.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Being unemployed really sucks
Yeah it truly sucks. I'm looking for some part time work and it's been pretty hard
I'm supposed to see my Canadian Hearing Society contact about some leads on Monday though I haven't gotten a confirmation on it. Hopefully I find something soon.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Being unemployed really sucks
I posted it a few months ago but I'm back in college for a degree in computer programming. I got sick of the waiting game, so I collected unemployment all summer and still am until it runs out next month.
100% certain I made the right move to go back with the economy in the state it's in.Last edited by Herky; 09-25-2008, 08:16 PM.GT: Herkyalert

Re: Being unemployed really sucks
Been looking to move out of the company I'm in now (an Indirect VZW dealer). Got an interview with corporate Verizon, but someone in the company beat me out for it.
Applied for AT&T this morning. Really hoping to leave soon.I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

Yeah. I am moving out of Ohio for that reason. Down here in Dayton it is terrible. Everyday worse and worse news too! I think I am heading up to the Northeast to try to find something until I finish my masters in education.Comment
