My cousin is married to IRL race car driver Townsend Bell.

I also know a bunch of guys in the CFL but that probably doesn't count.

Some kid got drafted into the MLB this year from a rival High School to mine, thats about the extent of possibly knowing somebody in the MLB.

I'm cousins with Todd Coffey of the Reds. My dad works with Marcus McBeth's parents (also in the cincy org.). I met Taylor Harbin (played for Clemson and is now in Arizona's A team) when I worked in his hometown. I have a distant cousin who played at the University of South Carolina and is in the Twins organization. I know Josh Tower's brother in law (don't know if that counts). I worked with a guy that is a personal assistant to a few Mavs (I think Josh Howard, Erick Dampier and Greg Buckner.)

I don't really know anybody famous in sports but I've met Mark McLemore (former 2nd baseman for the Rangers)...

Re: I know A Professional Baseball Player

There was a guy I went to elementary school and high school with that pitched in the Twins organization for a number of years. We actually played on the same team in 8th grade. Made it as high as AA with New Britain. Spent the most time at Quad Cities. He's been out for 4 or 5 years now though, I think. It was cool following him while he was playing. I think he played a year or two with Kevin Youkilis when he was at the U. of Cincinnati.

I don't know Adam Dunn, but I was at a bar in Covington one night about 5 years ago when he was down there. My best friend was talking to his wife, who was working as a nurse at a hospital, on his cell when he walked up to Dunn, handed him the phone, and said, "Adam, some naughty nurses want to talk to you." I have no idea what he talked about with her for a few minutes but to this day she still doesn't believe it was him. Dunner is a pretty cool guy.

My wife is good friends with David Price. (#1 Overall pick last season)

I'm good friends with Sonny Gray. (27th round pick but going to Vandy)

Sonny said he wishes he never sent the letter to MLB asking not to be drafted because he never will know where he would have been picked.

                    Lost in extra innings, anyway...

Might be a bit off topic but I'm cousins with Michael Cammalleri (just got traded to the Calgary Flames) and my parents (live there when I'm in town) are neighbors with Marty Brodeur's parents, so me and him know each other quite well. Also, my mom's best friend is Roberto Luongo's mom, and so he's been over for supper years ago.

I like this thread. It's interesting to read these stories about knowing these famous athletes.

I'm ancient, but the kid who lived around the corner, Dann Howitt, made it to the major leagues in the late 80's. Unfortunately he was a 1st baseman for the Oakland A's and they already had McGwire at the time. This guy coached/umped our YMCA games. He was pretty cool though, he was 5 or 6 years older than us, but when he saw us playing he's stop and shag some flies for us or tried to work on our pitching.

I always followed him, he tear up Spring training only to go back on the bench behind McGwire. I think he ended up playing 3 full season in the majors.
