9 to 5...is there such thing?
I mean, does it really exist? Does anyone have this kind of a job where they always go home at 5pm sharp? And go out for lunch at exactly 12pm or something like that? It seems like science fiction to me...My Specs:

Re: 9 to 5...is there such thing?
When I was a directory assistant and worked in the mornings during the summer, my hours were from 9 - 5.
My hours now is 8 - 4:30, so... not much difference.Originally posted by EWRMETSMaybe the best post in OS's history. If you don't think Tony Romo is a Hall of Famer, you support al Qaeda. -

Nope. Not even in the public sector. I averaged 70 hour workweeks when I was in sports and I average 50 hour workweeks in the public sector.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

Re: 9 to 5...is there such thing?
Not for me. I average between a 50 and 60 hour work week. Although I have the occasional week where I don't have much going on, and I work 40-45.
My day typically starts at 7:00 am, and finishes whenever. Plus I usually put in some time on the weekends.Comment

Going to the beach and surfing doesn't count BK.
As for the 9-5 thing I think it depends. My Dad works 9-5 (really 7-3) every day, never stays late, never goes in early, and never works weekends. He's probably lucky in that boat, but if he does it, I'm sure someone else does.
Me personally, working in the food service industry, I've never come close.Comment

I'm pretty sure the last time the 9 to 5 workday concept for most people ended in the early '80s. We're too driven now by maximizing productivity and then you add in the fact that everybody wants to be convenienced then those in certain industries are going to be working far longer hours.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

My mother usually works from 7-2 as a rural mail carrier.
As a college student, I go to class sporadically through the day. Although for 5 weeks, I get to go to class from 8-4 every day! Yay!Rose City 'Til I Die

I guess the next question will be: Are you willing to give up XX% of you salary (I'm not talking about 50%, of course) for working 9-5 without exceptions? My Specs:

Re: 9 to 5...is there such thing?
That's what my Dad did. He gave up about 15k a year to work 40 hours a week, instead of the 70-80 he was working. And he's a much happier person because of it.Comment
