My wife and I have a problem with mice in our home, and it sucks. We live close to a sugarcane field, and they come into our house to get warm in the winter. Mice are pretty resilient and I've had a few chew off their arms to get away, but nothing like I saw today.

I set a trap with peanut butter, and I caught two of them this morning. The thing is one of them was completely intact, while the other one was missing it's whole front end except the spinal column. It looked like it had been sucked right off of the spinal column. Can mice do this? I know they do some wild things to get out of a trap, but can they survive pulling their bodies off of their spinal column (even just a minute), should I be worried about a snake in the house, or could it be other mice? My cat is not allowed in my laundry room (scene of the death and disappearance). Please share your thoughts.

That sounds disgusting. I hate looking at regular mice but if I saw one with half it's body missing I don't know what I'd do.

There would be a trail of blood going somewhere. Most likely either the other mouse in the trap or another animal, could be another mouse, ate it.

I just figured out that I have cannibalistic mice living in my house! I found another mouse with it's stomach bored out this afternoon. Mice suck. I have three traps set, and I am changing them twice a day right now. I am thinking about trying peppermint oil, as I have heard that it acts as a great deterrent. Have any of you ever used this or a water trap? I think the water trap would be easier than having all of those traps set.

Mice will do that, most animals will do that. My fish do that if one dies.

Is the water trap the one where they all drown or are you talking about some poison where after they eat it, they die when they drink water? We had 2 or 3 mice/rats whatever it was that got into our attic when I was a kid and my dad put the poison out and it worked great. They all died and they died outside since there was no water for them to drink inside.

The water trap has a ramp leading up to the edge of a 5 gallon bucket filled with soapy water. You smear peanut butter on a clothes hanger over the water to entice the mouse to try and walk onto the hanger, it slips, and drowns eventually.

Dude that is because you are in the big city of Thibodaux :wink: or should I say. "Maa' Sha' you bees in da big city of thibedeuuux!"



Isn't it so weird that this is so normal to us but soo strange to people in other parts of the country.

We've had some mice in our attic for a few weeks and we've bought some poison to help control it. They seem to be diminishing in number, so that is good. We just need to kill them all. Luckily, they've been confined in the attic and haven't come into our living space. Of course, if they did, our two cats would quickly feast on them.

It's weird hearing them run around upstairs, though, since you can hear it pretty loudly at times.
