It just doesn't seem right to me that'd you'd ignore a potentially good poster because of the actions of other bad ones.

To me, what you're suggesting is like ignoring a new co-worker at work because they haven't been around as long so to you, they don't have that good of ideas or aren't going to contribute anything to the workplace. Would you honestly do that to someone?

If you feel that people are posting a bunch of crap in certain forums than just don't go in them to begin with. Just because they don't have as many posts as you doesn't mean they're completely worthless.
To use your example, if I'm working at a place and 9 out of every 10 new guys that comes in sucks then I'm going to assume that any given new guy sucks until proven otherwise.

If you dont want to use the feature then you dont have to, but Id like to be able to read the madden and ncaa forums when the games release without it feeling like a chore to sift through the crap.

You'll never have an internet forum without idiots;even a pay model won't help-look at Something Awful.
The flames and trolls are part of the deal, just police it vigorously, which I think the mods here do a very good job of.

i have no problem with some good flaming and trolling, but a thread like this

          http://www.operationsports.com/forum...his-route.html

just absolutely sucks and has no value, terrible attempt. I would expect better from someone with that many posts, but its balanced out by the homer username which is a guaranteed sign of a bad poster

But what makes a person posting a certain number of times "proven"? How can you say that every post up to a certain number will suck, and then every post after will be an excellent contribution to the conversation? Yes, a majority of new posters do come here and ask one question that can be found through the search feature, a question that's hard to understand, or just a stupid question. But the number of posts a person has in no way reflects the quality of their posts. I wouldn't use this feature at all, and don't think it'd be a good option to have on the forum.

You can also do this without having the option there. When reading a thread, just focus on the number of posts a person has instead of what the post actually says. There's your solution.

You're supposed to donate because you want to support the site, if you don't want to do that then you don't really need to be in a donators only forum.

I do want to support the site and although I do have 20 dollars to send to the site that 20 dollars isn't for OS. It's for other necessary things. So I contribute in other ways. I've edited rosters for nba2k8, choops 2k8, pitching edits for The show and NCAA 09. I could just not post that stuff on here or even worse, charge people for it. I don't do that stuff because I like this site and would like to give the users some good rosters for free.

I dont think you understand. Thats not what Im saying at all.

If a poster reaches a certain number then it means they arent banned/starting a terrible thread/asking a stupid question/a brief tardfest and the chances are that overall they have some contribution. There are exceptions like chirispaul3 or whatever he was and there are probably some people with ten posts with each one being good, but when talking about the overwhelming majority thats just how it is. Nowhere did I say or even imply the first X would suck and the ones after that would be good.

But to me, that's what it seems like you're saying. If a poster reaches a certain number, than it means that they haven't gotten banned. I don't know how reaching a certain number means they haven't started a terrible thread, because you posted a link from a guy who's posted almost 800 times and it's still a stupid thread to start.

I don't know, maybe I'm just stupid lol. But like I said, you can do this without having it as a feature by looking at the number of posts a poster has before reading what they actually said.

no you cant. not at all.

if they are on ignore then you can read straight through a thread without interruption

if they arent then you have to stop at every post to check

No, I'm talking one subforum where only OS Supporters can read and post. You could use that forum to talk about individual games, movies, what you ate for breakfast that day, whatever.

Would it be a lot like the OS Neighborhood? Yes, but with gaming talk added in. It would eliminate the need to post in the individual game forums in most cases because you'd have a lot more intelligent conversation within the Supporters Only subforum.

And DC...you only don't see the point because you, yourself haven't donated.
I like where this is headed...don't you think a couple sport specific sub-forums would be good?

Can't it be set up like the EA NCAA Football section? Have the general forum when you click on the "lounge" but then have a couple sub-forums at the top where Sliders, Rosters, Online go? You could expand those a little to be topics such as "Football gaming, NBA Basketball News, etc."

The referral system would be a terrible idea. The whole point is to give the donators another perk. Unless you get a way for someone to donate on your behalf (superjames did it) then you shouldn't get it if you don't pony up $20.

Getting someone to donate for you is the referral system OS currently has in place and it shouldn't change.
