I think you are missing part of the point.
This is NOT a COMPETITIVE league(like LeBron was in .....in High School...where I would say they are COMPETING)...it is a DEVELOPMENTAL league...obviously kids that are not "up to par" with kids in the other leagues....they are there to learn.

So what part did you find funny again?

Read a little before you open the trap and insert.....as a mod you should know a little better.....

Why would you think there would be playoffs?
        Can you fathom a guess?
That's almost as asinine as asking if it's not competitive why do they use bats, balls and gloves.
They are still teaching the game...and last I checked...playoffs are part of baseball.

Then it's not a non competitive league. A non competitive league would at the least not crown a champion and probably wouldn't have winners and losers for the games.

T ball is done that way in a lot of areas.

Edit: A non competitive baseball league.

Why are there development leagues for 9 year olds? Like Jackdog said, a development league is t-ball, coach pitch etc... I don't think there are any sub leagues like that in Texas, at least not in my city. If you are 9 you play with other people your age in the same league in your city. Plain and simple.

I agree. There are several of these types of leagues where I live for almost all sports. Usually score isn't kept, stats aren't tallied and there are no winners and losers. The whole point of development league is to develop fundamentals and not compete for victories. Often times in these baseball leagues, each team will bat one time through the lineup before switching sides regardelss of how many (or few) outs are made. They play until the time limit runs out and then the game is over.

Those are two completely different things. Baseball is baseball whether it's played in a backyard, a sand lot or a ballfield. Baseball isn't baseball without the tools you stated, but a playoff system has nothing to do with it.

In fact, the whole idea of a playoff is to COMPETE for a championship, which goes against the whole idea of the league being non-competitive. The whole point isn't to play to win, it's to play to learn.

Sorry guys...I didn't read the Guidebook For The Rules and Regulations Regarding Competitive and Developmental Little Leagues.
I think it's great that they made a Federally mandated standard that all leagues past the T-Ball stage must follow!
If you could put up a link, that would be great...I'm sure there are plenty of parents out there with their kids in league not following the correct regs.

Sheesh....talk about Captain Literal and his sidekick the Commissioner Fun for One No Fun for All Allowed in Baseball.
If you guys read into everything in life as literally as you are reading into this...you're in for a rough go of things.

And.....just to clear things up a little.....I happen to agree with letting the kid pitch. My take was.....they ASKED him(and the parents) not to let the kid pitch any longer....it was serving no purpose for the league. They said no....fine....my kid would still play against him and I wouldn't ban the kid. My whole point was sportsmanship for the sake of the league. No good coming from the kid whiffing everyone.
Should the league have just ate it this season and instituted some better rules for next year? Sure.....
Could they have handled it better? Absolutely....
But if you cannot understand why they asked for what they asked for....
Nor see why in good sportsmanship the parents of the obviously superior kid should have asked the kid to play SS or CF.......

....and sorry....I'm not buying the "there shouldn't be any playoffs in developmental leagues" BS....
I've never played in(heck, in my day there was just ONE league to play in) or even seen a "developmental" league.....but even in pickup games either in the playground or on the field down by the dumps....if you won...you stayed on until someone beat you. A playoff, if you will at the basest level.

I don't care about having playoffs in a developmental league. That's fine. I was just making the point that this is not a non competitive league. That was the entirety of my point. Nothing more.
