    9-year old is too good?

    Thoughts?

Personally I think the parents are all acting absurd. The only one acting right is the kids mom who reportedly went nuts. She has every right to go nuts...such discrimination.

    Such a load of BS.

The kid is only 9 years old, so you know this has to have some kind of mental scar put on him.

I bet any other team in that league would be just fine having him but since they have to play them it's an issue.

Let him play or draft him up to the next league if he's that good

At first I thought it was odd, but it really depends what this quote means:

There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promote the sport.
If it's a "developmental league" like every pre-high school league is a developmental league, then it's crazy. But if it is a league that has a mission statement of being a non-competitive learning league and there are highly competitive leagues available, then they have a point. When I moved to Maryland, my little league football program had a team for first year, non-athletic freaks, for ages 9-11 or so. It was basically just to learn fundamentals as I understood it. If this was basically just for weaker kids to learn the game, this kid really has no place.

um, if a kid is well beyond the level of the competition then the league definitely has the right to move him up an age limit. It sounds like a league for kids who have never played baseball before, and how are they going to have fun and learn when one guy dominates the whole game from the mound?

If the league is developmental I don't see how there isn't a screening of some sort or a draft. They obviously knew he threw hard beforehand, leading me to believe the other kids are just *******.

what, are they going to do full background checks on every kid that signs up?

The goal of the league is for everyone to have fun, not one kid to dominate. Having a really good kid move up a division in the interest of competition is incredibly standard in youth sports.

Because that's pretty much the exact opposite of what you do for a development league. The last thing you want to do for first year 8 and 9 year old players is put them on the spot in front of each other. Hell, I hated doing that when I was playing travel as a 13 year old.

leading me to believe the other kids are just *******
The parents pretty much said that. Would you let a team of Kobe, Lebron, Amare, Paul, and Howard clones play in your rec league (pretend they're all ***holes)? No, you wouldn't.

Just move the kid up to the next age limit team. Come on, what is the problem. I was playing basketball in a high school league when I was still in middle school, sure I got knocked around some, but nothing more than minor injuries. Make the kid step up to the next league and see if he is still great.

Yeah. He should be fine in an 11-13 league.

Having this kid move up in age groups isn't totally out of the question. Though having this "issue" of him being too good 8 games into the season is a little strange. People keep mentioning these developmental leagues where kids are just there to learn the game and have fun. Are these something new? I never heard of leagues like these when I was a kid.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Jericho’s coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league’s administrators.

Jericho instead joined a team sponsored by Will Power Fitness. The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching.
                          Hmm...

40 MPH in a 11-13 league? That's kind of slow isn't it? He should stay where he is at and the other parents should deal with it

What crap. He's never hit anyone, yet parents can strong arm the league to breaking up his team...

I don't understand how you can tell a kid that you are "too good" at something.

On the other hand, I understand people pushing him to try himself against better competition. They do it in school all the time, I'm sure the kid will only get better playing against better players...

Parents are whimps nowadays. No winners or losers, everybody gets a trophey, and our kid looks bad against another... therefore we must ban the good kid. Give me a break.

I LOVE the name though. Jericho Scott.

Sounds like a badass closer name if you ask me.
