Couldn't you get some containers and fill them up with gas. I know it's dangerous to have containers of gas around but at least you wouldn't have to pay for a while if the prices do go up.

Makes a lot of sense to me and if I could drive it'd be something i'd do.

Which is one of the things im wondering about. These goons talking about they had need to raise oil prices is all we need right now.

I know at the gas station I normally go to, it was $3.32 earlier in the week. It's already back up to $3.48.

I don't know if that has to do with it being Labor Day weekend, speculation because of Gustav or a combination of both but I'm certainly not looking forward to the upcoming weeks.

I really started enjoying seeing the gas drop $0.02 a day for the last month too.

My prayers go out to the folks down in that entire area and to the people who unfortunately can't get up and evacuate.

btw, there are other cities in the storm's path besides New Orleans

I dont know why the media only focuses on that particular city.

I can see why New Orleans risk is higher because their levies arent completely rebuilt. However, western Mississippi has some areas that have been being rebuilt since Katrina also.

You obviously dont know how it works. There are not people behind the curtain conspiring when to raise prices and when to lower them.

do you realize how much oil drilling goes on in the Gulf of Mexico?, and how many refineries there are?...A hurricane there will obviously affect a lot of production.

Yes it is. I wish New Orleans was built north of Lake Pontchartrain

Great point. I am going to guess it's because the city is below sea level and we all saw what happened with Katrina. My wife had family in Biloxi when Katrina hit. They never recovered and moved to Tennessee.

I heard the quote on an early morning newscast of Ray Nagin calling this the mother of all storms. I guess he isn't *****footing around with this one. Seriously if this storm is a Cat 4 or stronger then that's the end for NoLA as the levees can only hold out against a Cat 3. So I heard.

"All looters will go directly to angola prison, into general population. God help you if you get sent there" Ray Nagin.

With more Police and National Guard, and this promise from the mayor hopefully looting wont happen this time. And from what I saw on a show about Angola this threat may be enough to stop looting all together..lol

In my experience with hurricanes, the first one in a long time in an area causes a lot of damage, but the rebuilt area holds up a lot better if a second hurricane comes in not too long afterwards. Hopefully the area has had time to build back up it's structures and did so with good quality. But sometimes, a storm is so strong there just isn't anything you can do. I hope all stay safe.

it was terrible. I know some people in Mississippi also that lost their house and most of everything they owned.

Hopefully this storm wont end up being as bad as they are saying, but they are usually right I guess.

Huge areas along the Mississippi River are flood plains. And Oklahoma City gets hit by F5 tornadoes. And I guess we shouldn't rebuild L.A. or San Fran if they get the "big one" either? This comment is nonsensical. As long as nature exists and we can't control it, there will be disasters. Oh, did I mention the forest fires out west? How about we just pray that everyone gets out of the way and no life is lost, our "true national treasure?"

I'm sorry, it's nothing personal, but I get so tired of hearing about the money stuff in these instances. I won't even begin to start about how my tax dollars are spent on unjust wars.(should've went to Afganistan...) If they have to use my tax dollars to rebuild a life or evacuate a person from harm's way, more power to 'em..........
