    Re: Getting to know you.....

Alright, i'll go. My name is Blake and i'm 27 in my last year of college. I go to school at Ku and am getting my degree in social welfare. I grew up in SE Missouri and Wichita KS. I've been a sports fan pretty much all of my life. I grew up watching the Cardinals during the glory years of Ozzie, Willie, and Vince but i remember more years of Pedro Gurrero, Tom Brunansky, Felix Jose, and Ray Lankford. I've been a Cardinals fan all of my life. I've been gaming since the nes, really got hooked on sports games on the Genesis. NFL Football with Joe Montana, Team USA Basketball, World Series Baseball and College Football USA stand out as my favorites from back then.

I'm a pretty normal guy, i like sports, music, and drinking with my friends. I would recommend looking into texas/red dirt music if your a rock/country fan but think todays country music is too chessy/poppy/manufactured. Bands like Cross Canadian Ragweed, Stoney Larue, Reckless Kelly, Jason Boland, Micky and the motorcars, and Mike Mcclure just to name a few. I go to a lot of concerts any where from KS,MO,OK,TX every year to see these guys among others. I've been with the same girl for the last 3 years. She's starting to put engagement heat on me, not too sure about that.

The coolest events that i have been to would have to be #1 Wrestlemania 17 in Houston, absolutely awesome card that night. I also went to game 5 of the 05 NLCS between the Cards and Astros. I also made my national televison debut on a 98 edition of Monday Nitro sitting along ringside petting Chavo Gurrero's stick horse Pepe he used to take to the ring with him. I did attend a large number of Baltimore Oriole games the year they set the record for most losses to start a season.

That's pretty much it. I enjoyed reading about the rest of you. I've been on here for quite a few months and didn't even know this section existed. Talk to you guys later.

Here's a pic. I'm the one in the middle in the yellow shirt.

edit: Sorry about the pic it was enormous and i'm not sure about how to size them down.

It's a shame we couldn't get any hi-res pics in this thread.
      Blind to this impending fate
We let the world carry our weight
It's back breaks with every mile
But we all live in denial

Cool Willie was my baseball coach in Jr college at DVC during his off season. Cool dude. I still see him time to time. He lives in the same town as me still.

Well I guess I will join in.

I am Philip "PJ" Varckette. My last name is actually spelled wrong in public records. Its actually Varchetti. They screwed it up when my grandfather moved from NYC to Ashtabula, Ohio. He didn't speak english well so he never bothered to change it back. I am actually thinking about changing it back when I have my first kid. Anyway, a little about me. I grew up in the small city of Ashtabula, Ohio. Its about 45 minutes east of Cleveland, and right on lake Erie. I played baseball my whole life, with the dream of one day playing professionally. I had scholarship offers for alot of smaller schools in Ohio, but decided to go to Kent State after attending a camp there my senior year. I walked on and made the team. My freshman year I played in 8 games, and went 4-10, with 1 HR. During the winter right before baseball season was about to start the following year, I was screwing around throwing snow balls and blew out my shoulder. Effectively ending my baseball career. Yeah I know.

I went on to graduate from Kent State with a degree in Psychology, and I now work at a pizza shop I now live in a nice little berb of Akron called Stow. I really like this areal a lot.

Another cool tidbit about my family is that my Grandfather played baseball for Italy's national team, and was signed by the Indians. Thus the reason I ended up in Ohio. He never made it to the bigs but did play for a few years in the minors.

I have a wife, Katie, and a Step-Daughter Gabby, who I love very much. And 2 awesome dogs. Some of you may even remember my one dog Charlie, he is doing great.

Well that's about it for me.

Nothing much exciting about me but I figured I'd read enough of other people's that I'd post a bit about myself. My name is Rick, I'm 31 years old and soon to be 32. I currently reside in Louisville, Kentucky, though I'm not from here I'm from California and until October 2006 I worked and lived in Yosemite National Park. I moved to Louisville for a woman who would become my fiancee though earlier this year I lost her and her son to a accidental death. I'm working as a cashier at the moment, it's not my dream job by any means but after being unemployed for nearly 6 months after moving here I took the first job that was offered. I'm a big Louisville fan and some day hope to be a graduate of that university. I love to snowboard though living where I do I've found it extremely hard to find anything more then an anthill covered in man made snow which is pretty much like riding on white concrete. Like I said nothing too special but it's me in a nutshell.

                  Here's me at the 2008 Brickyard 400.

I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

                    didn't recoginze the name change.

Cool story about your Grandfather. My Grandpa played in the minor leagues for the St.Louis Cardinals, which is cool.

And Psychology huh? Does that help you win arguments with your wife?
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                        Re: Getting to know you.....

I'm Geno. I'm 20 years old, single and I attend Penn State University (F-you, Mark May). I'm originally from Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, which is about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh. I live most of the time now at school in an apartment with three of my best friends. I major in journalism (broadcast) and minor in theatre and kinesiology (study of the movement of the human body).

I'm a huge football fan. I love to watch it, play it, coach it, read about it... basically anything to do with football. I played for ten years, from midget football all the way up through high school. My Junior year of high school we had 5 wins and 5 losses, including a playoff loss in the first round... I started all along the defensive line that season and recorded 55 tackles and 2 sacks. My senior year we had 0 wins and 10 losses. I played defensive tackle and offensive line. I think I recorded something like 25 tackles and 2 sacks, and was voted an All-Conference defensive line by the coaches in the league. Now I play a little bit of flag football here and there and talk sports every Wednesday night from 9p-10p on the Western PA Sports Showdown (comradio.psu.edu and click "listen live").

I've got a mom, dad, step-dad, step-mom, older sister and 6-year-old nephew... he's actually about to turn seven now that I think about it.

                        That's about it, I guess.

They died of carbon monoxide poisoning. As for how I'm holding up some days are worse some are better. Having my shoulder surgery just after they died kind of helped, it distracted me some what. I'm just now getting to the point that I've some what stopped blaming myself for what happened, I believe that if I hadn't let her and him go back to her place they wouldn't have died. That is something I will carry for the rest of my life, while I didn't directly cause anything, I didn't push hard enough for them to stay with me. There are days where I will just break down a cry my eyes out, I'm learning to keep on moving forward. That's what she would want or at least that's what I tell myself. I'll never forget and never forgive myself, they will always be with me in my heart.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!
