Have you ever stopped rooting for one of your teams?

I've followed the Mets religiously as long as I remember, through the unbearable early and mid 1990s. I've followed the Knicks, albeit at a distance, as long as I remember.

I've also been a Jets fan since the Kotite years. I lived and died with the team. The 1998 season was magical for me. 2002 was one of the most exciting sports seasons for me period.

Something happened this season though- I stopped caring about the Jets. While watching the Raiders-Jets game yesterday, I didn't have that familiar knot in my stomach that I have had in tight games as long as I remember. After Janikowski drilled that FG, I just shrugged my shoulders and changed the channel.

I'm dangerously close to stopping support of this team and moving on to another squad. I love football, I know I do. I spend my Sundays glued to my PC following my fantasy leagues. I want to have that knot in my stomach again though. This has nothing to do with being a frontrunner, the losing has nothing to do with this.

    Anybody had similar experiences?

I stopped hardcore following the Orioles. It had some to do with them sucking, but also was partly due to me getting more into football, plus the team was pretty much broken up from my childhood in only a few years. That said, I didn't bandwagon anyone else.

I've stopped watching Chiefs games for the most part, but they're still my team, and I can't see that ever changing. I think I've missed either going to, or watching more Chiefs games the last 9 games of last year, and so far this year, than I have in the previous 15 or so years combined.

Maybe it's easier for me to deal with because I'm also a fan of the Royals, and they've haven't exactly been good. Strange part is, for as bad as they've been, I still get that knot in the stomach you talked about in close games, and it still depresses me when they go through an August (7-20) like they did this year.

I think what I'm going through with the Chiefs is probably similar to what you're feeling, but like I said, I can't ever see myself not wanting them to win, and/or rooting for another team.

The only team I'm truthfully passionate for is the Boston Celtics. I'm a Red Sox fan, I love the Patriots, but growing up basketball became a part of me and it just flows in my blood. I'm certainly not a bandwagon fan of any sort; I was just as big a fan when Rick Patino was the coach as I am now. I don't think anything will ever pull me away from that special place where the Celtics are reserved in my heart.

Same with my Dolphins. Also I have a hard time getting behind the Bobcats right now, but they are still a young team.

If I followed the Lions are closely as I follow my other teams, I'd have put a shotgun in my mouth years ago.

I watched and cheered on the Cowboys even when they trotted out Ryan Leaf as their quarterback. I like to think that that is dedication.

I was almost ready to give up on my Wahoos this season, but then we became not awful and actually have won three straight games.

Nope, and I could never stop rooting for my teams.

At least you have Calvin Johnson

I doubt I'm going to jump ship, but man, I don't know what the hell happened. Last couple years, my week would have been ruined with a loss like this. I didn't even think about it today. Maybe I've just reached the point where NFL football has become less important? Maybe life has taken a wedge out of the passion I used to have for sports?

I stopped rooting for the Dolphins when Marino retired and I stopped rooting for the Spurs when David Robinson retired. Since then its been all Cleveland (and San Diego & Edmonton) teams for me

The Royals got so bad they killed my interest in Major League Baseball. I'll follow them for the first month or so of each season, you know before I realize it's hopeless. Back in 2002 or 2003 when they actually challenged to win the division I followed all year, but since then, not so much.

I've came close at times with the Vikings but that will never happen. And the Wolves, I love them to death, I'll never quit on them.

I haven't lost intrest in any teams specifically, but my love for sports is dwindling. I've noticed that I rarely watch sports anymore while I used to watch sports all day everyday.

The Tim Floyd fiasco had me mad at the Hornets and after Katrina with Byron Scott talking about how they should've stayed in Oklahoma City made me even angrier but since he apologized I'm watching again.

No, although I'm getting pretty close to boycotting the Raiders until Al Davis dies.
