Re: Have you ever stopped rooting for one of your teams?

I'm disgusted with my Cubs, but I dont think I'll ever give up on them (yes, I am one of the sheep).

I changed my avatar on OS from the Cubs logo to the Bulls because I couldnt stand lookin at it after the debacle that was this year's playoffs.

I can guarantee, though, that I wont be watchin the Cubs season as intently next year.

I got really close to giving up on the Brewers and finding a new MLB team to root for. If they would have missed the playoffs and retained Ned Yost, I wouldn't be a Brewers fan anymore. Fortunately, they fired Yost and made the playoffs.

Yup, the Miami Dolphins. I loved Marino when I was a kid (not gonna lie, Tecmo Bowl had a hand in that development) but once he retired I just lost interest in the team. It doesn't help that once Marino was gone the Fish were rarely on TV up here in the northeast.

I root for the Giants now but I would not call myself a fan. To me, a fan is someone who gets upset/pissed if they lose and happy if they win, follow everything they can about the team. I'm not that way partly because football is my least favorite sport of the Big 3, partly because fantasy football murdered my rooting interest in a real team. I always watch the Giants, if they win it's cool and if they lose it's no big deal to me. You'll never catch my yelling at the TV like I do with the Yanks, Knicks or UConn.

It will be interesting to see if the Fish ever become one of the best teams in the NFL, maybe I'll get my fairweather hat on.

Yes, The Dee-troit Lions. What a disgrace. You can't even fathom the Millen years if you weren't a Lion fan. I had to resort to rooting against them and laughing at their blunders to save my sanity. I'm no bandwagoner, I followed the Lions through thick and thin from the days of Greg Landry to Billy Sims to Barry Sanders to the Insane Clown Posse they assembled the last 5 years. But I had it. It sucks because their is so much tradition with the Lions, sharing Thanksgiving with all my relatives huddled around a TV while the mothers and aunts screamed from the Kitchen. Its just so ridiculous what they have become.

I'm close with the Detroit Tigers. Same situation as Millen, they pretty much have a maniac senile mumbling fool in Leyland calling the shots. The worst part is, they spent oodles of cash on this team and the owner will fire sale it if things don't turn around next season. Not a fair weather fan there either. Followed them through thick and thin. Always had the radio on listening to them no matter what I was doing. We'd even have a radio in the golf cart for score updates. Fishing and listening to the Lions with my parents and grandpa. I refused to go to a game last year for the first time in 20 years. Leyland is just that bad. I even had my bachelor party at Comerica. But Leyland is just brutal.

The closest I have ever been was the Lucas coached Cavaliers, who's best player couldn't get off the operating table, drafted Trajan Langdon, Desanaga Diop, DeJuan Wagner, drafting and trading Jamal Crawford for Chris Mihm, all in the first round and watching Ricky Davis, Cedric Henderson and Bob Sura...ugh.

Nah. Going to the Alabama games where they lost homecoming makes it that much sweeter now that we're on our way back up.

Nope, now that's not to say there weren't times where i've been laisez faire in my following of said teams but i've never actually given up on them. There is one caveat though. I will find it VERY hard to be a Bills fan if they move here to Toronto permanently. I sure as hell hope that doesn't happen.

Ive never stopped rooting for my teams, but i stopped letting it affect me so much (have to do that with the Rays, the Bucs and FSU). I always root for them, unless they do somethign stupid (like keep Jeff Bowden on as OC), in which case im just as quick to point out the stupid, idiotic stuff as i am the good stuff. But i wont ever give up on my teams.

I was a Brewers fan. Then Selig let go Milwaukee's best players, including Paul Molitor, after they just missed winning the playoffs. I couldn't root for a team that wasn't trying to win.

I was a Seahawks fan. But they started having players consistently getting caught driving drunk, including the coach. Then the Blades fiasco when a cousin was killed when he was aiming at his brother. Couldn't work w/a team I couldn't like.

Stopped watching the Bruins since like 2003, just got back into them now though.

I have no interest in the Pats this year, lost interest in the Sox extremely early in the season and I catch the games I can for the Celtics.

Right now I am obsessed with hockey though. I can't get enough of it.
I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

I'm glad you posted this. After watching the browns-redskins game, I found my self so stressed out/ticked off that I have officially ended my support for the clowns. My whole family is steelers fans, but I don't think I can stomache that. So after 25+ years of rooting for the brownies, I'm officially looking for a new team...any suggestions?
