Not sure why an Uzi would be a legal weapon. You wouldn't hunt with one, nor use one for self defense, and skill competitons don't use Uzi's to my knowledge. Sure it would be fun to shoot one, but lets face it, an 8 year old can't hit a urinal with his pee half the time, why on earth would you give him something that can spray death in the blink of an eye.

That's a good point that I definitely overlooked.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

If I am guessing right, at a Gun show, they could probably show whatever they want.

That being said, WTF are they doing letting a 8 year old shoot a freaking Uzi?

This is just a massive truck load of failure all the way around.

Well, it's certainly sad, stupid, but I'm gonna have to say it's rare (compared to some of the violence/stupid accidents that kill others in our society). I was hunting at 8 with my dad. Had a 4-10 single barreled shotgun.

As far as Uzis. Take them out of the hands of the bad guys FIRST and I'll give up my assault rifle. Wait, no I won't. Interesting gun safety vid below.

Wow. Yeah he is just faking it then.

How should mods go about taking care of this? It's frustrating to see his posts and he contributes nothing to this board.

It's not necessarily fully auto. They make many semi-auto versions of automatic weapons.

I'll never fully understand the American penchant for wanting to own and carry around guns especially automatic weapons.
If we could get rid of all of the guns that were here, eliminated our countries drug problem, and exterminated all of Mexico and Cuba, creating a several hundred mile difference between us and any third world country, I too would be willing to get rid of all weapons.

Blaming this on guns is like blaming Ford because some drunk clown runs over someone with his F-150. I don't think many responsible gun owners would let their 8 year old kid shoot a gun unsupervised.

I think two much is being made of the boy's age. I mean, I've used firearms since I was about his age. I don't use them much, but I've known how to use them since about then. It's nice to know how to use a gun.

I don't care if he's eight; he's stupid if he doesn't know not to stick the butt of the gun in his face.

Age is irrelevant. It's whether or not he's been taught how to use a firearm. He obviously doesn't know how. However, a 60 year old could be just as stupid if they were instructed how and a five year old boy could be a master at guns. It's about how much you have been taught about how to use them.

Why didn't he have a safety lock on?

All I know is that when I was eight years old a gun was the last thing I wanted to get my hands on...let alone an uzi.

I don't think I've ever met an 8 year old kid who was responsible enough to shoot a gun, let alone an Uzi. Maybe a rifle since there is not much to go wrong, but anything that is difficult to use, you do not give to an eight year old kid.

                            This was terrible parenting.

I agree that it is stupid for a kid to have an Uzi. Automatic machine guns are probably not the wisest thing to give to a kid. But there's nothing wrong with giving a responsible kid a rifle or bee-bee gun IMO.

So you're saying it is the boy's fault for not being able to handle a weapon at the age of 8. Have you ever shot an automatic weapon? The impact of the recoil might be over powering for any child.

Either way, my blame here goes to the parents and the place allowing this. Seriously, why? Whatever happened to taking your kid to the zoo for a ride on the elephant or something.
