This is called the National Weather Service Thresholds for our area and what our school board follows for closing schools in this district.
It's all about the little one's standing on the corner waiting for the bus.
Wind chills 20 below to 34 below with winds at least 4 mph for 3 hr or moreComment

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?
... A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM TO IMPACT THE REGION THIS WEEKEND...
.A WINTER STORM WILL BRING ACCUMULATING SLEET... FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW TO THE REGION TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. THE HIGHEST ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL OCCUR OVER SOUTH CENTRAL MISSOURI... WITH A MIX OF SLEET... SNOW... AND FREEZING RAIN ACROSS THE I-44 AND MUCH OF THE U.S. 60 CORRIDORS. PRIMARILY SNOW... THOUGH BEGINNING AS SOME FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET... IS EXPECTED ACROSS CENTRAL MISSOURI... ALONG AND NORTH OF U.S. 54.
PRECIPITATION TYPE AND AMOUNTS WILL BE HIGHLY SENSITIVE TO A SHIFT IN THE POSITION OF THE STORM SYSTEM AND ASSOCIATED FRONT GIVEN THE EXPECTED STRONG TEMPERATURE CONTRAST FROM NORTH TO SOUTH. UPDATES TO THE FORECAST SHOULD BE EXPECTED AS NEW DATA BECOMES AVAILABLE.
BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES WILL IMPACT THE REGION THROUGH TUESDAY. TEMPERATURES WILL BE 20 TO 30 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL WITH HIGHS IN THE TEENS AND 20S... AND LOWS POSSIBLY CLOSE TO ZERO. WIND CHILLS AROUND 10 TO 20 BELOW ZERO WILL BE POSSIBLE BOTH SUNDAY AND MONDAY NIGHTS.
PERSONS ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS AND THE MISSOURI OZARKS ARE ENCOURAGED TO REMAIN WEATHER AWARE THROUGH THE WEEKEND... AND CHECK BACK OFTEN FOR THE LATEST FORECAST INFORMATION.Spoiler
Snow I can deal with. Accumulating Freezing rain, sleet and ice? NopeNopeNopeNopeNope.Last edited by bcruise; 03-01-2014, 05:37 PM.Comment

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?
I live just south of Minneapolis, and it's getting pretty tough to fight the cabin fever at this point. Never seen a winter like this, the combination of well below average temperatures, above average snow fall, and relentless winds have made this winter pretty miserable.
March is projected to be below average as well...
90 more days of bliss if this holds true.Comment
