I used to go to my grandparents when I was a kid and literally shovel it off the roof.

We also had this adjustable metal pole with a shovel-like head set so you could reach the roof from the ground and pull the snow down from the roof towards you. I think it was called a Roof Rake

I use a "roof rake." It's used on the ground to remove snow from the bottom part of the roof. I had ice dams a few years back and they caused > $20,000 worth of damage to my house. So now when we get snow, I get out there and take the snow off with it. I bought mine on Amazon. Here's the link.

EDIT: I got around 33" of snow. Only had to use the snow blower twice and it worked like a charm.

7 inches of snow has fallen today and it is still full blown blizzard going on. This is on top of the 10 inches we got on Tuesday. If that wasn't bad enough, wind chill suppose to be -40 this weekend.

Our turn, we went to church and grocery shopping.

I was white knuckling all the way. The blowing and drifting snow was making driving treacherous.

Up to 11 inches in SE WI. Not only are we being affected by the storm from the south, but also NE winds causing lake affect snow.

No super bowl party to go to, now.

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?

Our area got a little over 10 inches of snow between Saturday night and yesterday. It's also currently 7 degrees out and the roads are slick. The wind was really bad yesterday so there are drifts everywhere.

My wife and I spent 1 hour trying to dig our cars out of out apartment lot this morning and gave up and called in. My wife even broke here windshield wiper trying to clear ice from the windshield. I guess the side streets are really bad and hardly anyone is at my work today.

Hopefully there is no more snow coming because we move into our new house this weekend. Looks like a high of 37 that day.

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?

It sucks having to shovel/use snowblower to clean out lots of snow, but part that sucks is finding time to do it. Sure it's good if you don't have to go anywhere that day(though it partially feels like wasted day if you spend 1-2hrs on a saturday cleaning snow or something), but must suck for the people who have to leave home at 6-7am or who don't get home until 6-7pm, and have to clean stuff before or after that time.

Never liked thought of parking a car near end of driveway(close to sidewalk) for obvious reasons, but unfortunately, due to how much time it could take to clean enough of the driveway so a car can actually drive out of it, seems like that might have to be something that is done in the future during some big snowstorms.

At least snow is fun and things get canceled. It just rains all the time over here in Washington.

I don't know how those people do it. Every job I've had in CT has "snow days". The day I have to work for a place that has the policy of "you're coming in regardless of the weather or using a vacation day" is the day I move to a warmer climate.

The roads were terrible around SE Wisconsin this morning. School was closed around here with one college in the area closed.

My wife is a trooper, though. She will drive through anything, she said she just slows down and watches for other idiots near her. lol

She went to work today around 8:30, but she said the freeway was bad until Milwaukee County.

Guess it just depends on where you live/the company as well. Cause many places will just be like "that's life" and not care. Not care about how you get to work, what time you have to leave to get there, what time you get home at, just care about having you there doing your job for 8+ hours a day. Sure, most of those are the corporate businesses and stuff but still. One place I used to be at, they had no problem if you couldn't come in,but it was always the whole "If you need time off then go ahead, but you won't get paid", which I guess is ok.

But it's weather like this (the -20C,over a foot of snow in 1 day) which makes me want to move to somewhere in USA that rarely ever has snow/cold weather. Sure, weather isn't a good reason to move to a diff country, but it's one of the factors. Those 4 or so months(November-February,sometimes even carrying into March) can be brutal at times, and other years it isn't so bad.

The cold weather/snow and having it be dark by 4-5pm, gets depressing at times. I love spring/summers though cause it's nice and warm, and can stay bright until 9pm! Even if I'm doing exact same thing in January as I am in July, just feel so much more motivated/happy doing that thing in July cause of weather/more daylight and so on.

Manfucturing companies can't afford to shut down with a foot of snow around here.

I think I remember once where most manufacturing companies closed for the day, it was about 4 or 5 yrs ago when we had 20 inches of snow.

Manufacturing companies lose money around here if they need to close down for a day.
