The amount of snow last night and the rest of this week is probably an entire winters worth of snow in an 8 day span.

But in a way I'll take it. Rather get it all done now, late into the winter, than having it happen slowly beginning of January and it just stays there for weeks as more and more piles up for the next 2 months.

A bonus that its also cold because the colder it is, the less compact/heavy the snow gets so it blows everywhere and is so much easier to shovel.

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?

As expected, city mostly shut down with the snow.

"Back in my day....." they didn't used to cancel things the way they do today. People can be like "they're cancelling things like this but 20 years ago when we got way more snow they didn't care." but I'm glad they're finally getting smart.

All that old mentality does is force people to go outside in that snow and lead to more accidents on the roads as people who probably don't want to go to work are now stressing out/rushing trying to get there or people taking public transit are just adding to the issues they face since they can't meet the demand of the customers with all the issues they face with delays.

Even though things were never cancelled back then, teachers always had the "Yes, school board says we're open, take your time getting here BUT.....if you happened to not show up, let's just say you wouldn't be missing anything *wink*" agreement. Especially younger, they'd just play movies all day and let kids do whatever in the class because the teachers don't want to be there either and don't want to have to do the same lesson twice when half your class isn't there.

Although nothing ever tops the day years ago where my old workplace said they're still open despite the city literally shut down and me and 90% of my coworkers all agreed at 7am we're not showing up. That workplace still legally declared themselves open so that they wouldn't have to pay people for the day if they were closed. It wasn't for that reason specifically, but it's funny looking back on things now and realizing that within a few months of this moment, most of those 90% no longer worked there.

Another big dump of snow this weekend is going to be brutal. There's no where to shovel the snow off the driveway. It's like five feet high snow hills on either side of the driveway right now.

Is there nothing worse than when you shovel the driveway and the snow plough comes down the street and piles packed snow on the end of your driveway? That packed snow has the mass of a black hole.

The cities as a whole are a mess. Yes this is rare/historic snowfalls, but even regular snowfalls they're unequiped to handle it.

Summer time they have no idea how to handle heavy rain, winter they don't know how to handle heavy snow. So how can a city function when your city/area can't deal with either when that sums up the major weather systems you'll be getting every year? It's not gonna be clear skies and warm 365 days a year.

The contractors they handle to real with the snow are lazy (I've seen plows literally drive through a street without plowing, and then claim they did their job), over worked, understaffed (over here they have an interactive map showing every plow in the city. I've seen so many instances where you can see 50+ plows parked in a lot while others are driving around. If this isn't "all hands on deck" weather, what is?), the city's mindset is to deal with it eventually, meanwhile people can't even get out of their own driveways because there's 3x the amount of snow by the curb than infront their car.

This kind of snow will take weeks for them to clear out, with major streets dealt with first and residential ones after. Meanwhile by time they actually address the residential streets, everyone who lives there would've probably plowed their own sidewalks and the road infront their houses and it'll start melting by March.

                Typical Idaho day.

Started out at 23 degrees. Snowed about an inch. Now it's pushing 50 degrees, raining. Next week we will be in the 60s with a chance of snow this weekend [emoji23]

We had the rare thundersnow in Hamilton. It was snowing and thunder was going off. I even saw some lightning when it got warmer in the afternoon. Surreal.

A sign of how suddenly warm it got today compared to even last night, above ground was warm, but if you go underground it's freezing.

I took a pathway that goes underground for a minute or so, and I thought the pipes broke and the AC was blasting in the place because it was so cold that you could see your breath.

Got back up the stairs and it's so warm that you don't even need a jacket, both parts of this pathway were indoors.

Don't know if it was snowing or not in the night, but definitely lots of thunder and lightning. Probably lightning every 30 seconds for an hour straight.

I know the whole "lightning x seconds after thunder indicates how close to the storm you are" thing is a myth, but it just makes too much sense to me to not have some truth to it.

I only see lightning after thunder during storms. If its a delayed reaction then it's not as big of a storm.

Last night/technically early morning was the most lightning I've ever seen in such a short time.

You had the typical thunder noises, but so much lightning and then huge amounts of rain, all in such a short period of time.

Then by mid day it's as if nothing happened with all the sun and everything dried up.
