There calling for anywhere from 8 inches to 2 1/2 feet around here over the next two days. They're saying it could actually become like the storm we had in 1993 where I opened the door as a 2 or 3 year old and couldn't anything because the snow covered the entire door.
So what's the weather like where you live?

Have you ever wanted to coach or play basketball at the next level, but something prevented you from achieving that dream? Fret no more. Ask me about SimWorld Hoops to see how you can create your virtual self, and follow your path from the prep-level to the pros.

Out last yesterday and last night in shorts and a t-shirt enjoying 80 degree weather. 24 hours later it's 15* and all the schools are closed tomorrow. Something like a 50 degree temperature drop in just a few hours Saturday night/Sunday morning in Dallas.Comment

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?
lol, schools closed in Texas because it's COLD?
Big difference between Canada and southern USA.
In Canada, people go to school in blizzards(and have recess in them too!) and schools don't get closed unless something serious happens(the ONLY time my elementary school ever closed down, was cause the power went out in the middle of the day. It was a huge storm that day and school wasn't cancelled. lol,parents/kids were mad. Parents mad cause they already dropped off the kids to school, and kids mad cause if their parents couldn't pick them up,they were stuck there until end of day).
Luckily for me,I didn't go that day anyways lol

Posted this on the last page.
It's all about the little one's standing on the corner waiting for the bus.
Wind chills 20 below to 34 below with winds at least 4 mph for 3 hr or more
That is for around here, it's different based on the region you are from.
They haven't closed the university that our kids go to in four years and they closed it once in the four years I attended. (ie older kids can handle the weather much better than 5 year olds waiting for the bus on the corner)
People are sick and tired of this weather around here and other parts of the country, by now, we usually have brown grass showing instead of 2 feet of snow or more and temperatures barely reaching 10 degrees for the first of March with no end in sight.Comment

Texas
Really though it's because the only equipment they use to combat it is trucks that spread out sand. Last month it snowed and the roads were passable, but then it melted, and refroze as a pure sheet of ice. Unlike the north where it's just snow that can be cleared and not sheets of ice.Last edited by SuperBowlNachos; 03-03-2014, 05:53 PM.Comment

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?
I just got put under a Winter Storm Warning. Looks like a nice mixed precipitation event overnight with snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The freezing rain could be pretty bad depending on what happens. I hope I don't lose power...
I lost power for a week during the December 2002 ice storm.Comment

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?
One thing people have to remember is that a lot of southern cities don't really have snow plows or snow removal equipment. We have them around here since we get accumulating snowfall at least a few times per year on average, but not an adequate amount to plow neighborhood streets, etc. Places like Atlanta, Birmingham, etc. have much less than that, not even enough to manage the primary roads and interstates, in many cases. I do think they close schools too easily even around here, but it's mostly because of buses not being able to navigate safely (and the buses have to navigate untreated neighborhood roads).
Should I make fun of you northerners that can't handle a little 90F heat with dew points in the 70s? When that happens in Chicago, people starts having strokes, etc.Last edited by superjames1992; 03-06-2014, 06:06 PM.Comment

Spent a week in Dallas several years ago in August. Walked and played 18 holes of golf in the heat and came back to a swimming pool. Sleeping, I received a nice painful "Charley Horse." ie drink more water.Comment

Re: So what's the weather like where you live?
Hell of a storm here. I'm without power as are over 3/4th of the people in my area. I have over 2" of glacier (mixed snow/sleet/freezing rain) on the yard and a lot of ice accretion in the trees with gusty winds earlier. This is the worst ice storm in a decade and maybe longer in my immediate area.Comment
