And again, I read an article on the topic and several of the people doing it didn't have the kid as a young'un. Essentially, imagine you're minding your own business and your junkie brother gets locked up or dies, and you get his 12 year old son.

12-16 year old have the high school slut problem. On one hand, you feel somewhat sorry for the high school slut because she's somewhat being taken advantage of by her peers. on the other hand, everybody else isn't getting gangbanged by 5 dudes after school. Some of these kids are going through a phase or are bad parenting, but some are just losers who need to be dropped.

My comment was a compliment to yours. These kids are problem children likely because of a lack of discipline early in their development.

haha. They should set up little kiosks like this all over the country. Once the kid gets dropped off they would then transported via suction-tube(like at the bank), sorted by weight and height, and placed into a suitable line of work until they are 18. That would work perfectly!

I've heard about this law before. I have no idea why they would make such a stupid law. It has good intentions, but did they not contemplate the certainty that this would be taken advantage of?

It's only being taken advantage of because the law is not specific when it comes to the childs age. The law just states that any "child" can be left, and the parent or guardian won't be prosecuted. The word "child" refers to anyone under the age of 18.

So, it's their wording that is that problem, not the law itself. Most other states have this law as well. But, they are much more specific with their laws with some stating that the law only applies to a children that are only so many months old.

The law had good intentions. But, poor word choice. Last I checked, Nebraska is going to hold a discussion to make changes to the law.

I believe this law was changed yesterday to only allow children under 30 days old to be given away IIRC. That's much better.

Yeah they did. I was just about to post the change:

LINCOLN, Neb. (Nov. 20) - Gov. Dave Heineman signed into law Friday a bill adding a 30-day age limit to a safe-haven law that allowed 35 children — including teenagers as old as 17 — to be abandoned at state hospitals. The law, approved hours earlier by the Legislature in a 45-3 vote, goes into effect Saturday, and makes Nebraska the 14th state with a 30-day age cap. It had been the only state with a safe-haven law without an age limit.

Why they would make the law with no age specification in the first place is beyond me.
