    Re: Books and reading

I have a hard time reading novels, because I honestly just get bored and would rather do something else. There are very few novels that I've read; because I really have to be pulled in to continue reading them.

I think the last book I read was the last Harry Potter book, because I love that series.

Lately, though, I haven't read anything. My wife is trying to get me to read Twilight, but the movie was kind of mediocre, and the first 16 pages that I've read of the book in the last three days have just kind of bored me. I'll read a page and put it down, and then read another page later and put it down.

I promised her I'd read it, though, because she's completely obsessed with it.

I despise reading. The only books I've read in the last 10 years were the first 5 Harry Potter books, Of Mice and Men, The Audacity of Hope, and Super System.

For whatever reason I just can't get into the Halo universe at all...I think part of it is just feeling that Halo 2 and 3 were disappointments (I know, in the minority).

                    Re: Books and reading

                    Reading is great.

Started reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series in late Spring and right now I'm on the fifth book "Wolves of the Calla." A little slow about it because I only read on the train to and from work.

Not to mention I lost a month working on a film set in September.

Also, I stopped after Book 3 to read "Killing Pablo." Then I stopped after book 4 to read "Watchmen." I also try to cram in those long articles in The New Yorker on rides home from work.

I honestly don't know how I could live myself without a good book close by. I always think about that Twilight Zone episode where the guy just wants more time to read! and then the world ends, but he survives. After spending time organizing the books he was going to read till he died, his glasses fall off his face and crack. Of course, I'm blind like a bat and just cringe at the thought.

If I was the worrying type, I would worry everyday that my sight would be taken from me.

I love books. Once I finish the Dark Tower Series, I'm going to check out The Sandman Series from the writer of Stardust. His name escapes my head right now.

I've also heard good things about The Dresden Files.

I'm a big fan of fiction.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I thought Halo 2 and 3 were also. If the games were even half as good as the books I would enjoy everyone of them.

Just to point out - forums count as reading. Novels and books aren't the only reading to be done; games, magazines, forums, websites, and things like that all count.

You've got over 5000 posts, and I'm going to guess you've read more than you've posted.

So I wouldn't say you hate reading; this sort of reading counts just as much as reading any novel does.
