    Re: Books and reading

I like reading a lot medieval stuff as well as the Alex Cross series from James Patterson. I enjoy the side books by Tom Clancy. I also have a fascination with books about utopian worlds like Brave New World and Anthem.

I wasn't too impressed with War and Peace, kinda dissapointed. I would definitely recommend "Life and Fate" by Vasily Grossman as an alternative. One of the best books i've ever read.

Currently reading Karl Jaspers' Nietzsche, which is technically a supplemental to Nietzsche's philosophy, but one that is written by a legitimate philosopher in his own right (Jaspers) opposed to a mere scholar. Before this was Why We Read What We Read by Lisa Adams and John Heath, which catalogs and analyzes the best-selling books of recent times and draws parallels between them. Fascinating. Also working on Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion for a religious studies course.

anybody ever read any of Neil Gaiman's books? I've read American Gods and Neverwhere, and I really like both of them. I also like this British horror write called James Herbert, I have a hard time finding his books.

So I wouldn't say you hate reading; this sort of reading counts just as much as reading any novel does.
I like JJ, but I can't agree with this.

Forums are like conversation, not reading.

                  Very different things.

I also wouldn't agree that someone who reads magazines instead of novels is actually reading in the sense we're describing here or even in the sense that JJ meant.

Have not read it, but 1,400+ pages seems manageable to me.

I'm interested, but I have to make sure I finish a few books. It seems like a totally different genre than the one I prefer.

I'm currently reading The Templar Legacy by Steve Berry. The style reminds me very much of Dan Brown and the Da Vinci Code.

American Gods isn't quite as good as Neverwhere, but its a really good book with a plot twist and a lot of deep characters. Ive never read Anansi Boys, which is related to American Gods, but I have heard it is good too.

I used to try to get into reading but I could never decide what to read. The endless stacks of books is really a scary thing, especially when you have no idea what you're looking for.

The only time I ever really read was like back in 5th or 6th grade when I read through the entire Redwall series.

Last book I read was in my senior year of high school, A Clockwork Orange. I'm probably not one to judge books since I haven't read hardly any but I thought it was a great book.
