Quit smoking and get in shape. That is my problem. My body fat % is about 18% and I can't run two miles without puking. I spend too much time in bars.

Best thing to do is feel out the game first. Are you playing on the wing, post or point? Do your teammates move, set screens or does whoever rebounds the ball bring it up and shoots.

Are you playing to win? Then do the little things that help teams win. Talk on defense. Talk on offense. Be a good teammate. Play to win.

If your a honkey become quick friends with someone because most folk ain't going to let you run unless you know somebody. Otherwise your going to be on the "other" court with a bunch of high school kids who can't play or stuck playing with a group of 4 friends who are just up here to get in shape....in other words they suck and don't care about playing hard.

Damn I need to run and get back in shape. I haven't played in 3 months......I need to move now!

It's not that bad. I haven't played in 2.5 years...and every time I wanted to get back to it I just couldn't - mentally. And the more time that passes, the harder it's becoming to get back to play.

Good stuff man. I am mad I got in this post so late.

          My issues

          1. I hate when females are around. Dude TRY to show off. I hate it, I hate it, I HATE it.

          2. Get back on defense man. Especially in transition. I coach HS ball and I get so tired of telling my kids this. I make them run everytime EVERYONE doesn't get to the opposite 3PT line (at least) when in defensive transition.

          3. Don't argue calls. I hate playing games where SO MUCH TIME is spent arguing calls. Especially when you play with OLDER dudes, so much time is spent arguing calls. I don't even engage in that nonsense.

          4. Don't overdribble. Self-explanatory.

          5. I hate when people on my team gamble (play passing lanes and attempt to block tendency sliders @ 100 ). Because they probably succeed 1% of the time. I would rather for you to get your hand up in a shooters face and lower the % of the success rate. I hate gamblers man.
          Concrete evidence/videos please

I rarely call fouls. Its gotta be blatant otherwise I just let it go. But dudes, especially scorers get into this nonsense all the time.

I hate when people start arguing **** like backcourt violations, carries, travels and **** in a pick up game. Admit when you did something stupid and if the guy doesn't he is a punk and you just gotta win to get him off the court.

Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?

I cant believe no one said this yet. "PUT A HAND IN HIS FACE!" I dont care how good of a shooter you are...it is a lot harder to make a basket with a hand in your face (Reggie Miller anyone?). When I do it I spread my fingers out and wave my hand back and forth really fast. It works anywhere on the court too.

The coach in me is pissed no one mentioned this yet. If you cant do anything else...get a hand in his face (and I mean right in his face...close enough for him to tell if you washed your hands or not)

              Also..Please remember...when youre going for a rebound...JUMP!!! Im 6'0 but when I jump Im a lot taller.

Another tip. If you are used to playing ball on the east coast do not get your hopes up if you find yourself playing basketball in Texas. No one down here plays team basketball i swear. if your team passes the ball 3 or 4 times before taking a shot your team will win every time.

Also i live in south ATX and go to TxSt. and am always looking for more ppl to ball with so hit me up.

Don't knee me in the left quad when you go out of control in the paint. I feel like he split my muscle in half. Every step I take today feels like I have a bruise that's getting hit.

BTW am I allowed to take charges in pick-up games? I could take several but I usually just go up and try to force a miss.

Speaking of getting a hand up...

I'm not boasting here but it's a fact I play defense harder than anybody who I play with. I always guard the opposing teams best player. HOWEVER yesterday I feel like every damn shot in my face went in. I was GLUED to my guys and had my hand up EVERY TIME! It was just one of those days...but my offense was on point.

Oh well I'm going back tonight and gonna stop that **** from happening again.

BTW 24th you playing tonight? If so you need to let me know what Peak Fitness you're playing at. Let me know a night and place this week, I'm open at night.

Harrisburg I can't go to: too far
Matthews I could make it to
Steele Creek is where I go...the court SUCKS...not regulation size.

On a serious note this time around, I'd say an important thing is that when you practice, practice at game speed. Don't lolly gag around the gym, don't go half speed through shooting drills, etc, etc. All that stuff is useless if you're doing it at half speed, it won't translate well into a game situation.

If you just play pick up and don't work on your game then I'd say there's two keys:

                      1) Hustle at all times.
                      2) Don't be selfish and/or stupid.

Yea just to add...understand your game and your strengths/weaknesses

                        Me:
Ball handling SUCKS...get the ball into hands of people who can take care of it. Maybe this is why I suck at isomotion in NBA2k9 as well...

It's pretty damn big...it used to be a grocery store.

I could be down, but I don't have a membership there. Does it cost money to play without membership?

To be 100% honest I don't know. I'm sure they do daily things, it can't be too much.

They might make you take a tour or something though...so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Is there a spot in Charlotte to play basketball? I might just go to a YMCA or something and I'm fairly certain you can pay for a day there.
