It seems like much of the world is experiencing below average temperatures. Beijing just experienced their coldest December day in 57 years. The forecast for Europe is calling for temperatures 6-10 degrees below average this winter, ect.

We still have only had one measurable snowfall here in High Point, NC and that snowfall was only a half an inch. The high temperature is supposed to be sub-freezing today, though, which is a rarity in the Piedmont area. We've been getting the cold, but we haven't got the moisture at the appropriate time!

This guy seems to think that we may be entering a cooling period much like in the 1950s-1970s after the warmer 1930s and 1940s. It would make sense since we have been warming since the 1980s, so it's about time for things to cool down a bit considering these things are all cynical.

I know where you're getting at, but without getting too into it let me explain something really simple about Global Warming to you.

It will get really cold before it gets too warm, the reason being the ice caps will melt causing total disruption of the Gulf Stream, thus causing much of Europe that relied on the Gulf Stream for warmth to basically freeze.

You really end up looking dumb inserting your political opinions into a thread about snowfall.

Interesting stuff, there's a guy out there that thinks we're entering into another ice age. He theorizes that the jet stream will completely stop which will bring about a global cooling. The jet stream has stopped briefly several times in the last decade or so.

The guy's name is Robert Felix if you're interested.


P.S. Gotta love that the Weather Channel guy's name is Joe Bastardi...Sheesh imagine growing up with THAT last name!

The point wasn't to bring about political discussion; it was to discuss that this is likely going to be one of the coldest winters worldwide in quite a while and we could be entering a cooling pattern ofr 20-30 years from what I've heard, which means that these winters could be common for a while.

In the 30s and 40s, we had bad hurricanes and record high temperatures, much like the 90s. It got cold in the 50s, 60s, and 70s with panics over global cooling and such, so it really wouldn't surprise me if the natural cycles of this planet brought about another period of cooler weather.

Yeah, I've heard a lot about another ice age. I don't know what to believe as I really don't think it's possible to accurately forecast what is going to happen years into the future. But, looking at past trends, it does appear that we could be turning into a cooling period and maybe even an ice age. We'll see, I guess.

BTW, SPTO, I saw that Canada as a whole is likely to see its first white Christmas since 1971! It must be really cold up there to have the entire country engulped in the white stuff. That means the Canadian maritimes and the West Coast (Vancover, White Horse, ect.) all must have snow, too, which isn't surprising considering all the snow Seattle has gotten over the last few days.

I really don't have a side, there is a side of me that believes something fishy is going on, but there is another part of me that says, the world has been around so long I don't know if we could have much of an impact.

Think about it like this. If the life of the whole world was put into the span of a year each second would equal 500 years. That means it only would have been a half second since the beginning of the industrial revolution. It's pretty crazy stuff.

Yeah it's been all over the news here. I thought last winter was pretty bad but that was mostly local. If the whole country is gonna be in the grips of a cold white winter then YIKES!

Oh well, at least it makes for a lovely scene on Christmas day. up until a few years ago most winters were too humid and bone dry or rainy. So it's nice to see some snow around but I guess sometimes you gotta be careful what you wish for.

Yeah, there's close to a foot of snow here in Vancouver. Very rare, especially this time of year. Usually snow falls after Christmas, then washes away quickly.

Another 5 to 10 inches here today in West Michigan abiout 3 feet total since last Thursday. I let my dog out the back slider to do his thing last night and he did some Marcus Allen dive over the goal line move over a snow drift and literally disappeared. He emerged a couple minutes later with a white beard of snow.

Anyone who says dogs can't smile are crazy because he was laughing his a$$ off when he came back inside.

Haha, good point. I was screwing up my locations there. Whitehorse is actually fairly close to Juneau, Alaska, isn't it? And White Horse is in Yukon, not British Columbia anyways, LOL!

Suppose to rain tomorrow, so probably wipe off most of the snow on the ground. THANK YOU. I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't like 20 degrees and icey.
