Question for the guys who have been here for some time

Mods if this turns into a war of words please lock

I've been a member of OS for some time and I know my post count is not as high as some of you but i've noticed a nasty tread here as of late. No matter what forum I go into it seems the level of quiality posts is going down hill.

It seems like the boards are turning into something you would see on the ea or 2k sites. What really makes me angry is with many of our forums having a rep from 2k or ea on it after all this time it could be ruined by foolish and childesh posts.

    Anyone else notice this trend?

    EDIT

I know I only joined in April 06 so this is not bashing or putting down anyone who has joined in the last 1-3 years.

I just joined in late 2007. It's even gotten worse since then.

This is the thing that gets me.

However I'm wondering if 2K can even do anything to better their game/servers? With the economy the way it is I'm thinking the quality of games is going to go down.

Well I think alot of the "bad posts" in the EA forums stems from the license, alot of hate about that around here I notice.

In the 2k forums you got the "sim" vs "Cheese" crowd. But this trend stems much further than just this forum.

All in all it is like that saying, "you gotta take the good with the bad"

But yea I agree with you

Forums get bigger, more users, more mainstream. Happens to every forum I've been involved with. There's an ignore button, or report feature if the posts get out of control.

            Agreed.

It's kind of like if you find this great little spot for a sandwich. You take your buddy there, and he really likes it. Pretty soon he tells his buddy, who tells his buddy, and so forth.

Next thing you know you go there to get a sandwich and there's a line out the door.

It's a natural part of the Forum/Site growth Cycle.

Like EG said if you see something that bugs you use the "Report Post" function.

We Mods can't be everywhere all the time.

PS - Sorry if the food analogy makes anyone hungry.

I agree with areobee401 100%. The ignore feature does come in handy...it doesn't solve all the problems or even 1/2 of them, but it helps. There really isn't a solution to the issue though. It's like EG stated, the forums grew and the quality of posts decreased. There's not much that can be done about it IMO.

It must suck for any Devs to come in here and try to read or post with all this garbage going on. Any god forbid you try to throw constructive criticism at a game. The haters join up with you, the loyalists want to burn you at the stake for blasphemy.......
Check out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.

You too can be a 5* recruit at FSU.......

That there are "haters" and "loyalists" over things as trivial as video games is kinda sad, but I guess sadly is to be expected once a community gets as large as this one is.

But yeah, the ignore poster and report post features are your friends in this sort of environment; they help the powers-that-be minimize the negative and unwanted flak, actively and passively.

I just attributed it to myself getting older. But yeah, there is alot of ridiculous stuff going on. But the ignore feature is great. Only problem I have with it is that it should block the thread title too.

I agree with you but I don't really have that problem since I post only in the Neighborhood, Entertainment and in the Pro Hockey forums!

I agree with EG. # of posters increases, number of idiotic posts increases. We still had our fair share of idiotic posters, it's just now there's more. Yeah, the forums use to be better, but I think the OS mods have done an outstanding job of keeping everything under control. At least compared to most other forums.

My problem with the ignore feature is that if you start a thread or are in a convo with someone/a few folks the trolls will still redirect the convo to their liking and pretty much ruin the momentum of the topic...thus making the thread an exercise in futility.

That's why I don't use it even with the trolls cuz I still want to talk off points people have made in response to said troll. And when a thread that interests me has turned into the majority of folks debating the troll (which is the goal of a troll)...it's absolutely impossible to not respond to their posts if I want to talk about the topic.

I've directly told someone in here not to talk to me and have ignored him for months on end. Have ABSOLUTELY not acknowledged him. He still quotes my posts and asks me direct questions.

                          It's beyond trolling...it's psychotic.

                          But...

Overall, this site is still pretty decent with other members.

I must stay away from the problem areas because I didn't think it was that bad.

I always hear about the Madden Forums, the NBA Forums, and others, but I'm rarely in those places.

Seems like everyone should just become a baseball fan. We're more civil.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer
