Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread

There are two beers I really enjoyed this summer.

    Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier
I can't get enough of this one. It's the only beer that I can gulp. Smells fantastic and tastes good when poured into a cold beer mug.

    Spaten Marzen (Oktoberfest) German beer.
I tried this at an authentic German restaurant. I asked for Sam Adams and the waiter said, no, try this. As much as I like sammies, this beer tops them all. It has no hops, so you might want to consider that if you can find some.

Oh, btw. The Oktoberfest beer went nice with this German dish I had.

(my plate before I smashed it)

Oh man... my mouth is watering again just looking at this.

Whats this beer taste like man? is it malty, w/ caramel or toffee hints? most Octoberfest's are malty/ w/ heavy spices.

Just for the record I wanted to share something I saw this morning. Yesterday I had a rough day at work so I stopped and picked up a bottle of Chimay Grande Reserve.

I drank the whole bottle last night. After I was done I had about 2" of beer left in my glass on the last pour. I was full and could not finish it. So I left the glass sitting on my computer desk. This morning I was picking up and went to bring the glass to the sink.

IT STILL HAD A HEAD ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was like ................WOW it retained a head for 8 hours on 2" of beer. Amazing!

It was a malty beer with caramel hints. It managed to go down smoother than the Sam Adams without the bite.

That is crazy huh Mo!!!! I have never seen that before. I knew when I opened the bottle it was fresh. The cork came flying out and almost put my eye out with so much force. Was a very good bottle, but I was not expecting the head to stay on the beer the entire night and some of the morning. You are talking from 10pm to 7am the next day 2"'s of Chimay retained its head sitting on a desk.

That my friend is a good beer

                        Ha, that Chimay ****'s crazy!

I picked up a 6-pack of Odell Brewing IPA tonight and it's WAY different than the Dogfish 90-Minute. It has a really cool and unique nose to it and I can't place what it is. Almost citrusy, but piney or something.. pretty weird (and it's driving me crazy that I can't identify that main smell, honestly it might just be the type(s) of hops, but it's very dominant in the smell and taste). The piney twang carries over to the taste, and then there's a healthy dose of bitterness at the end. It doesn't have the top notes that the Dogfish did by any stretch -- it's a brief floral/piney taste and then the bitterness. Despite that bitterness (that I normally didn't like), I actually like this beer. Not as complex, but that nose gives it big points and it's a good 7.0%, which is nice for a session beer.. I'm planning to drink 3 tonight (halfway through #2 and feeling nice).

If I gave the Dogfish Head a 5/5 on the IPA meter, this one is a solid 4... the unique nose is its main feature. I'm gonna head over to BeerAdvocate and see if I can identify that nose, because it's cool. The bitterness takes it down a little bit, but I think I'm warming to that also... that damn Dogfish Head got me over an IPA barrel ha.. I'll post pictures tomorrow night, but it has a nice head (disappears once the beer is about half gone) and a pretty standard golden color..

                          I'm wasted.

I had a Duvel, a Celebrator, a Weihenstephaner, a Rare Vos, a Three Philosophers and a 90 Minute IPA tonight.

Tomorrow morning is going to suck.

                            Wow.

I, on the other hand, am a lightweight. Last night, I started with a Leinie's Creamy Dark, followed with four Sunset Wheats, and concluded with a High Life. I went to bed at 1 am and got up at 4:40 to puke my guts out.

Wow was last night the night of the drunks on OS lol. I was on here drunk, but I refrained from posting. I ended up in a conversation with NY_Meth for about a hour on meebo and I was getting pissed, because I knew in my mind what I wanted to say but my hands were screwing with me and punching wrong letters lol.

I had 2 Turbo dogs, 2 Flying Dog in Heat wheat, 1 Sam Adams Winter Ale (I think that is what it was called, I sent my girl out for Cream Stout and she came back with that ). I was not wasted, but I could not type for crap ............I did also smoke so maybe that helped

Been in the UK for the past year + so it was good to come back to Canada this week. Been plugging through mostly:

                                Alexander Keiths Red
                                Rickards White & Honey Brown

                                and my favorite Steamwhistle.

                                All killer Canadian brews.
