Stumble, I'm envious that you've had Pliny the Elder. I had to have some Pale Moon last weekend due to being at a relatives house and them having a Blue Moon variety pack and it wasn't a bad tasting IPA, just a bit weak.

Wow, a month and a half, we should be ashamed. Right now I'm drinking Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA, Bell's Hopslam, and TommyKnocker Pick Axe Ale.

Woah, TommyKnocker made it out to Alabama? That's my hometown brewpub (Idaho Springs, CO... population roughly 2,500)... We used to get the short-pours from them all the time for super cheap and get all plastered. Didn't even respect good beer back then (late high school), woulda probably preferred something that was easier to slam ha.

I've been mostly frequenting a new local brewery for my beer fixes as of late... no distribution or bottling as of yet, just a growler and pints at the tasting room. Good stuff -- Strange Brewing Company.

Tommyknocker has been in Alabama for awhile. There's a bar in Tuscaloosa that's had it on tap for several years.

Crazy, I guess I didn't realize the kind of distribution they get. Thought only New Belgium/Avery/Great Divide were really making the rounds out that way.

My belly's getting huge with all the beers.

I really want to get into these crazy *** IPAs and all that that you guys love but I don't know if I'll like/handle the hoppiness of it. Guess there's only one way to find out. Any suggestions for an introductory one?

So far in my beer fandom, I've stuck to the Hefs, Doppelbocks, Weizenbocks, Blondes, Tripels, etc.

Most people shouldn't just jump right into a Dogfish 90-Minute... definitely a "step up" scenario where you get used to more and more bitterness/hop flavor. Really you crave it haha, I've got the hop head BAD.

I'm a big fan of Odell's IPA, Lagunitas and GreenFlash are both pretty nice, so is Great Divide's Titan IPA. However, I really love a double IPA and Russian River's Pliny the Elder is my favorite beer in the universe... just absolutely perfect for me. On that tip, Avery's DuganA is real nice as well...

If you have netflix go watch "Beer Wars" on stream right now. Really interesting just how pathetic the big 3 companies are and how they won't even let a tiny brewery with 0.0002% of the market share survive.

Yeah, it's good... I don't think it has quite the character that some of the others I mentioned have, mainly the Odell's and the Russian River... a lot of straight-up bitterness in that one. The Odell's especially has a very interesting herby/minty thing happening that makes it super-refreshing and great with food... The Ruination reminds me of the Titan IPA only a little stronger/more bitter... run-of-the-mill hoppy bitterness to me. Haven't had one in a while though, maybe it'll grow on me more.

Speaking of Pliny, I should go make a run tonight and see if I can find it somewhere... so damn good. Haven't had any in several months and it makes me sad.

Yea it has a real hoppy bitter. But I tend to like that strong bite. I have still yet to have the 90 dogfish head since they don't have it in Louisiana. But I am dying to try it.

I haven't had a single sip of anything with alcohol in 30 days as of today. In that same time frame I have also began working out and have lost 12 pounds already. I'm not giving up the drinking for good (I enjoy it way too much) but am on an indefinite hiatus.
