I think it was easier for me to quit smoking because I didn't have the oral fixation.

        Re: Cigarettes

One of my biggest problems is that I've been so stressed out with school lately, that I really enjoy taking those little 5 minute breaks to chill out for a sec and get my mind off of all the stress in my life. I know it sounds like a cop out, but it really just helps me get through the day sometimes. I'm taking 18 credits this semester, plus I work 20 hours a week...so my life is a little hectic.

Maybe I should just start jackin' it more...

          LOL @ Herbie Baby.

          You haven't experienced stress, yet.

Although, instead of jacking it, get a girlfriend. Get 2, a good looking one and so-so chubby one. Have each serve your needs however they may apply.

Quit taking life so serious, its too short to be stressing out. Stress kills!!!

              Re: Cigarettes

Like some have said here, you have to WANT to quit first of all. You have to WANT to quit for YOU, not for your mom, spouse, or child, but for YOU. I had several failed attempts to quit. My longest quit was one year. 8 months ago, I bought Allen Carr's book that was mentioned here and it really opened my eyes. That book coupled with me wanting to quit helped me kick the addiction for good. I have now been smoke free for 7 1/2 months and feel great. As Allen Carr says in his book - quit cold turkey. If you are trying to rid your body of nicotine, why continue to put nicotine in your body with the patch or gum? Finally, smoking causes even more stress because you are always worrying about and craving for that next cigarette. I have been much calmer since I have quit. You CAN DO IT!

My father quit cold turkey after having a mild stroke in 1991. I remember the nurse asked him, "Do you smoke?" He answered, "Yes", and she was like, "Not anymore." He never touched another cigarette for the rest of his life. That's why I used to laugh at ads for patches and stuff like that to quit smoking.

Yeah, I quit once for like 8 months cold turkey. Its really only hard for the first 3 days or so, and then the first time you are around other people that smoke. Alot of people just are weak-minded.

And yeah, I did say quit once, I've since started back, but I decided that I wanted to I actually missed smoking. Wasn't really a craving thing.

Thats pretty much exactly how I did it. My parent got me the patch, I told myself I didn't want to graduate college and still be smoking. Summer after freshmen year I didn't touch a single cig the entire summer and used the money to by my ps3. The second i was back at school i picked it up again but had calmed down from my pack a day habit. That year i told myself i would phase it out and go cold turkey in the summer. Since the start of the school year i have phased myself out of cigs completely now to the point where even if I have one drunk I can't finish it, but that hasn't happened in a few months. Now the smell of cigs gross me out, unfortunately 2 of my roommates smoke.

Yea I believe the tax is going up just over $1.00, just another reason to quit.

                          LOL...typical.

This is my example of guys who get to say what they want because they are long time posters. If I said this, I would have an infraction on my butt so fast, geez.

Well I take all my suggestions back!!!

You really think you want to smoke? I used to say that too, but finally admitted I was addicted. While I too quit for multiple months, it always lured me back. Allen Carr specifically talks about thinking you want to smoke in his book. It really is a great book (and I'm not usually one for self-help books). Nicotine is a sneaky drug.
