No Chicago ?????? Are you kidding me ? They have over 50 school kids killed this school year alone and over 600 homicides already. How can they not be in the top 3.

Until the criteria for these ranking is made clear, I don't buy Little Rock being more violent than New Orleans

I'm afraid you are incorrect. There is a Stockholm in Maine and New Jersey (And probably some other states, as well). So, while the one we all think of may the capital of Sweden, it also is a city in the U.S.

They measure this in "Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People". Thus, while Chicago may have a ton of crimes, they also have a very large population.

Plus, this only counts violent crimes and not non-violent crimes.

As far as I can tell, the only 2008 numbers the FBI has released are the preliminary ones, which show Baltimore and Detroit with under 250 murders between them. Now, maybe they've really cleaned up their acts, but last year, they were pushing 700 combined.

Plus, "violent crime" itself is a little blanket. I'd much rather be robbed than GTAd, and both are far, far, far, far preferable to rape or murder.

When the full statistics come out, I imagine Baltimore, NO, New Jersey, and Birmingham will take back their rightful spots.
