    Casinos & Gambling

Got a few questions as I am heading to Vegas in the near future and am a complete rookie when it comes to gambling...

Is there a certain game that has the highest chances of winning?

On slot machines, is the best way to make winnings is to hop on a machine right after someone gets off?

In Blackjack, is there a certain cut off point one should go with and not hit on?

I have other questions too that will probably come up as this thread proceeds.

(Hope this is an "ok" topic...:o)

    Re: Casinos & Gambling

The games with the best odds are Blackjack, Craps and Baccarat, assuming you know how to play correctly.

Slot machines are completely random, they have no memory. It doesn't matter if it's been played non-stop or hasn't been touched in two weeks. Likewise, it doesn't matter if it's paid out three jackpots in a week or hasn't paid one out in months, each spin is random and nothing that happened in the past has any effect on it. There's no such thing as a "hot" machine.

In Blackjack, generally you stand on 17 and above, hit on 11 and under, and 12-16 depends on the dealer's up card.

Go to the Roulette tables and just watch for a table that hits either red a bunch of times in a row or black in a row. Once you see a string of colors hit 4-5 times throw your money on the opposite one.

Yeah, don't do this, that's a rookie mistake.

Just pick a game you know a little thing about, or something you might have fun, cause more than likely your not gonna win a huge sum of moment, so at least have fun playing a game, while getting free drinks.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

Honestly, the best odds you have in the house when you go to Vegas are on craps, and poker. Those two games also happen to be the hardest to learn.

For someone who has never played, stick to blackjack, and follow the basic rules, but make your own judgment as well.

          The basics of blackjack:

-If the dealer is showing 6 or higher, hit until you have more than 17.
-If the dealer is showing 3-5, stay on anything over 11, and double down on 9-11.
-If the dealer is showing 2, anything goes.
-Never take an "insurance" bet, or "even money".

If you don't know what to do on a hand, ask the other players, or even the dealer. They generally won't give you bad advice since everyone is depending on what you do for their own hands.

If you don't believe me, scour the internet, and I guarantee that the majority of blackjack sites agree with what I've said (after all, I lived in Vegas for 8 years, and made more money in the casino's than I did with my normal job).

Blackjack is my game of choice and great to double up money if played correctly. Slot machines are a waste of money in my opinion. Roulette's not a bad game, nor is Baccarrat(sp?)

              Blackjack...
              17 or above hold
              11 or under hit
12-16 check dealer's up card. Thats tough to say which dealer cards to play against, as it really depends for me, on how the table is running.

EDIT: I see someone already provided the Blackjack tips.

this may or may not help you....

Blackjack is a simple game, but there are a lot of details among the rules. We break this down into steps which will teach you what to expect at the casino.

One thing to remember about gambling...its ok to walk away from a hot streak. In other words, its ok to leave with money. Too many times I've seen friends say, "I'm hot tonight" only to go home empty handed, or worse off than they started (in the hole).

Also, only take money you can afford to lose and only lose the money you came with. Don't lose your winnings. Ex: take $100. Don't lose more than the $100 dollars. If you turn the $100 into a $1000, only lose the $100. I keep my winnings separate from my "gambling money". I tend to(as scary as this may sound) let my girlfriend hold the winnings, in an effort to keep me from betting it.

See. Some things I don't get.

Why would you take a hit if the dealer is showing a 6? Aren't you suppose to assume that the dealer has a ten card. And if that's the case, the dealer pretty much has to take a hit no matter what's under face up card.

And if it is a 16, then the dealer has a pretty good chance of busting. Because theres few cards that will keep him from busting. Or No?

I guess I just need a reason behind "why" you would do the things you mentioned. If that's alright.

                            Your right.

The dealer showing a 6 is the best chance you have of winning and the book says to stay no matter what, unless you have under 12.

That's exactly right. You are all trying to win, but at the same time, if you are hitting on cards that you shouldn't be hitting on, and you end up taking the wrong card, people will leave the table. For example, say you have a 4-2, and the dealer is showing 5. You hit like you are supposed to and get a 7 (now you've got 13 total). Say you hit again and get an 8. Now you have 21, so you're happy. Meanwhile, everyone else at the table is staying on 13's or 14's, and the dealer ends up flipping over a ten underneath that 5. Now, that 8 that you shouldn't have taken would have been the dealer's bust card, but instead, the dealer pulls a 5 or 6, and everyone loses. Make sense?

It doesn't matter what kind of table you play on though. Some people prefer tables with only one or two players, some like full tables. Personally, I like having 2 or 3 others. That way, I don't have to worry too much about what they do.

As for getting mugged, as long as you aren't playing in a ghetto casino, you don't have to worry about that.
