I was pulled over by Central PA State Troopers today...

i was not cited for speeding.. excessive or aggressive driving.. i was not bobbing and weaving in and out of lanes.. nor was i crossing over into lanesi wasnt supposed to be in...

Imagine my surprise to what the officer responded with when I politely asked 'Did i do something wrong?'

'You remained in the right lane'

WHAT??? I should have spit on his eyeball right then and there... i was cited because i followed the flow of traffic and didnt change lanes because another troper had someone pulled over ahead of me... r u serious? of all things to pull someone over for... the least he could hae done was gave me a slap on the wrist being that im from NY and never heard of this law nor seen it enforced

Now I'm looking at 85 to 200 bucks because this guy had to work on memorial day morning. I want to fight this but cant see myself driving 200 miles just to fight it... ugh... *spits on all law enforcement*

As a retired cop who put his life on the line every day you spitting on me would mean absolutely nada.

I believe they just put this law in place in MA, as well.

I always changed lanes anyway, so it doesn't change anything for my driving.

Yeah, we have those same signs in Missouri. It's just become second nature for me to move over if I see any vehicle, emergency or otherwise, parked along the right shoulder.

                Same here, obviously.

I always figured this was a law in every State, guess not.

They just started it in RI.

To the OP sorry for your anger man no one likes getting pulled over BUT the law is the law and its in place for a reason and you didnt follow it so the officer pulled you over. There are much worse things you could have done but if you fight it I dont see how you would win.

To be fair, they can't really make that a law in the state of NY due to NYC's traffic.

But yeah, its a law in Alabama too.

Which is why the law, here at least, says something along the lines of "If possible". Obviously in bad traffic it's not possible, and you shouldn't get a ticket for it.

Many officers, as well as construction workers, get seriously hurt or killed in those type of situations, that's what law is there to prevent, next time pay attention to your surroundings and move over.

I understand the intent of the law, but it is a stupid one nonetheless. It will interupt the flow of traffic and potentially cause unsafe driving conditions with people trying to get over at the last minute when they see emergency vehicles pulled over in front of them.

If their intent is to reduce injury to civilians and peace officers then they should widen the emergency lanes and reduce their interstate/freeway speed limits.

Those things would do the trick, but moving over a lane when you can costs nothing while widening emergency lanes would be rather expensive, and any politician that pushes for lower speed limits isn't going to be too popular with his or her constituents. Plus, there probably isn't much difference being struck by a vehicle going 70 MPH on a highway than one doing 65 or 60.

What's ironic, here in Arizona is that people tend to always slow down when people pull over for accidents so they can see the damage and it causes more accidents.

You'll see a 7 car pile up that's been built up over an hour in 3 different accidents. Terrible drivers here, because its a mix of all types of drivers from all over the country.
