I had to go to a big interview session at the station on the first Monday of my Spring Break. My college sends out tons of e-mails about career fairs and internship opportunities, and I saw the KDKA-TV e-mail and knew I wanted it, so I went after it.

Applied months in advance to everything in Baseball Operations then had to go through two interviews. I guess I was a bit lucky and got hired on the spot during the second interview.

I would work for free just to get the perks which are free tickets and discounts off the vendors.

If you aren't against it, I would suggest getting your feet wet by applying as a contractor. I did this for about two years as a contractor for a big network company - decent office type work (cubicles, etc) - good experience and resume builder.

Check out online, there are plenty of staffing agencies out there that are essentially contracting positions.

I got a call back from some job on craigslist I applied to. It's some health supplement company that says they've been around for a year and are expanding into this area. The guy gave me a phone interview, and wants to meet tomorrow at Starbucks to talk more. I don't know what to expect, the ad was very vague, it just said "Health supplment business seeking to put together a team of qualified associates to expand CT division. Great for college students looking to gain experience and extra income"

And on the phone he didn't really tell me anything specific either, so I really don't know if this is legit or not, and if it is what they are looking for.

Working construction for a family friend...and I potentially might pick up my old hosting job at Bugaboo Creek Steakhouse for a second source of income.

Don't have a paying job...but I'm an intern for a morning show. I can't do a job this summer since I'm taking 4 summer classes. Plus the internship will get me some contacts.

Can't find a job at all. I've gone around town just looking for places that say "hiring" out front, but there aren't any. So I've been going into places asking if they're hiring help for the summer, and they either say no, or you have to apply online. Then I apply online and just never hear back from them.

That's what's been happening to me. The "apply online" thing is like giving false hope out because I've applied to tons of places online and never heard back from any of them. A lot of them are through independent hiring agencies too, so you can't even call the actual store to see if yours has been looked or the status of it.

It's really come down to either being extremely lucky to apply at the right time or have a connection to hook you up with a job. It's so tough and quite frankly, discouraging and frustrating when you send out tons of applications and not only don't find a job, but get no word or BS responses of "We're looking at them, we'll call you back." I've been into a few stores that claimed they had on the spot interviews, only for the manager to be 'out' that day or something along those lines.

So how did it go? Was it a pyramid scheme? I only ask that because I was once told to meet an interviewer at Starbucks and it just turned out to be a guy asking me for $300 so I can start a pyramid scheme with him. At least the coffee was good.

College kids aren't listening. Go get either an internship, or find a staffing agency to become a contractor. Some contractor positions will hire you full time if you are exceptional.

Btw, anyone ever says anything about a "BUSINESS" opportunity. Run. If you guys ever need help with iffy people - check out whydowork.com - and go to the forums. You can do a search for pretty much any online/pyramid scam out there.

Yup, pyramid scheme, and I don't even like coffee, so complete waste of time.

You guys really should have been applying for jobs at least 6 weeks prior to getting out of school. These days there are no 1 week call backs. You will be waiting at least a month or 2 before you get a call back.

Because basically...people getting summer jobs, applied for them in April.
