I'm like that too. To people who don't know me, they think I'm quiet, shy, etc. To my friends and acquaintances, they laugh when people say I'm quiet. I just hate making small talk.

#3 definitely describes me also. I can schmooze, have fun at parties, etc, but only when I feel like it.

I would consider myself somewhere in the middle but a little closer to introvert. I like to go out with friends and hang out with people; I also love talking to people. But at the same time, I love to just sit around my house just doing nothing. I could never be one of those people that are constantly hanging with others 24/7. but I also couldn't go days on end without human interaction.

The classic misconception of an Introvert is that we do not like to socialize.

        Hardly a fact.

It funny, because I was telling someone this very morning that the internet has a create platform for introverts to interact in a controlled environment that suits our personalities to tee.

I've found that if a board is heavily moderated, having zero tolerance for puerile discussions, then introverts tend to flock to those places with great enthusiasm.

You get so many Birds of a Feather, who relish the tenor of the type of interaction there, that some might mistake the place for a extrovert haven.

You know, I have to agree with this. I enjoy interaction but when it's structured. I often lose myself when in person when it's everyone for themselves in terms of getting attention and conversing with each other but message boards like this really fit my personality and allows me to interact with a whole bunch of people I otherwise wouldn't in person.

            Interesting concept and theory.

When I'm around my friends I'm probably the most outgoing dude around but when I'm in classes or work I usually never say anything. I basically need to be around my friends or I need to know you before I start talking alot. I'm an introverted extrovert.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I can do small talk and whatnot, but it can get old fast if you don't have anything in common.

I'm more introverted, but when I know people (friends, family, etc) I'm more extroverted...Also if I've got stuff in common with someone I just met I'll be more outgoing (talking about sports, books, whatever common interest we have).

I'd consider myself an extrovert, but I don't like to get to know people too well.

I like to talk to a whole bunch of people, but only keep 3-4 people close.

Extrovert to people I want to talk to. Most people are losers so I don't acknowledge them. They might think I'm an introvert but it's just arrogance and not wanting to talk with them.

Introvert and that #2 is spot on. Can't stand small talk and it annoys me when people do it. Especially when they ask a question they already know just to make small talk.

I'm a mix of both. More of an extrovert though. I'll engage in small talk with anyone but I'll also engage in rather deep conversations with anyone. I'm also really good at putting on fronts for people. Most people that I don't like, have no idea.

                              Introvert.

When I was younger during my birthdays I would hide under the table because I didn't want the attention of people singing to me.

Re: Introvert or Extrovert: Which are you?

Hard-line introvert, no doubt about it. I'm pretty shy around people that I don't know. That said, I don't have a problem talking around my friends, but I'm not going to go up to some random person and start chatting, either.

On the Myers-Briggs Test I scored as an INTJ:

                                <table width="50%" border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr align="center"><td>Introverted</td><td>Intuitive</td><td>Thinking</td><td>Judging</td></tr> <tr align="center"> <td colspan="4"> Strength of the preferences % </td> </tr> <tr align="center"><td>100</td><td>75</td><td>88</td><td>44</td></tr></tbody></table>
                                You are:
                                • very expressed introvert
                                • distinctively expressed intuitive personality
                                • very expressed thinking personality
                                • moderately expressed judging personality

Those results pretty much suit me. I do enjoy a simple, quiet evening to a loud party most times.
