    Re: The OS Guitarists thread

    Bump.

YouTube is becoming quite the source for old anthology Lessons. Example:

    <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yVfoNZSyt2U" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="420"></iframe>

Been actually writing some things down lately and using my loop setting on my delay pedal a lot more. Working on blues scale still mostly, but forcing myself to work up and down the fretboard and seeing how the different octaves sound. Also been working on the minor scale and working out different riffs with that and then playing over those riffs with some blues lead. If I had a decent way to record music/video I would post some stuff for feedback, but all I really have is my cellphone. I really wish I could find somebody to jam with on a regular basis.

      Re: The OS Guitarists thread

I've been looking for my first guitar for the past two weeks online. I have also gone to pawn shops in the area as well as the local music shop. I was mostly looking for a Strat, but I was open to many other types. I wanted something cheap, nicely built, and pretty. I found exactly what I was looking for, the Squier Vintage Modified 70s Black w/ maple fretboard. Everything I've read has said this and the other vintage modifieds are outstanding, especially if you consider the price.

I have to go back to school on Monday, so my mom is going in to the local music store and get it ordered and a down payment on it. I'm really excited about this and I have all the time I need over winter break as well as something to do over J term.

I tuned down my acoustic half a step so I could play some certain songs (namely AiC's Right Turn and GnR stuff). I think I like the open chords better - seems to fit my vocals better.

Also managed to finally write down a song this weekend - feels pretty good.

          Hey Guys. Magic here...

I wanted to get into acoustic guitar. But have no idea where to start. I have never played a musical instrument in my entire life. Lol

Any tips on a guitar to start off with? I dont need anything crazy expensive. But I also dont want something thats pretty much a toy. I would like something nice, that years from now I wouldnt mind playing even if I had a more expensive one. Basically I'd like the most bang for my buck.

I'd also like to know the best way to pick it up and go about learning to play.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

          That is all. Magic out.

It all depends on your budget. I started out with a squire strat and an old busted classical guitar. Squire can be found for very low prices online (50 - 150) but finding a nice one that has a good feel is important. Epiphones run a tad bit more but a lot of gigging guitarist play those because if you get a good one it can sound really good especially after some upgrades. I gig two or three times a week and play on a Epiphone SG with some major mods tho. Cost me 300 and another 150 in mods. I used to play an 80 dollar guitar thru an 80 dollar amp and no one complained.

The Squier Vintage Modified guitars are pretty nice. They're better quality than the made in Mexico Fenders IMO. Definitely can't beat the price.

I need to get back into playing. I switched over to bass a few years ago. I had a really nice PRS SE that I sold to get my Schecter Stiletto custom bass. I still have an old MIM Fender Strat along with a Vox amp. I might mess around with it this weekend.

Cant believe no mention of Marty Schwartz and guitarjamz.com in this thread. Check out youtube! Marty, Justin, and Rocksmith got me heading in the direction I wanted to take my guitar playing the past couple years.

Magic Man on guitar, nice! What's up?

My first and last recommendation for an acoustic guitar, before we get into Martins and Taylors LOL, is the Seagull line, particularly the S6. About 4-500 dollars, but EXTREMELY playable, low maintenance, and it's a guitar you will keep forever.

I've always used Roland stand alone recorders, and currently have the VS2000. But if I were to do it again right now, I'd likely get a TASCAM because this thing is more than I really need.

                        Bump.

I found these "riff of the day" lessons (they're more extensive than just riffs seemingly) done by Pro Guitar Shop on YouTube. The ones I've watched have all been pretty damn spot out apart from the tone.

Now to get started on " just got paid". Not a whole lot of youtube stuff thats worth a damn when looking up Billy Gibbons.

I think I found my new favorite thread. I have been playing guitar for about 10 years now and I love it. I notice the older you get you sometimes have to sell your equipment to live. That is how it goes I guess. I used to have a Mexi Strat and a Gibson Les Paul Studio and to go along with them a 69 Twin Reverb All tube Fender Amp.
