So, a gigantic oak tree got struck by lightning and landed on my house today...

...but other than that fact, I guess I'm okay. How are you?

You should see the inside of the house. Good thing I have homeowner's insurance, otherwise I would be totally screwed instead of partially screwed right now.

I am staying with a few friends until the insurance company gets off their butts and fixes this problem. There is no power in my house and there are still around 5,000 pounds worth of tree limbs sitting on my roof. No thanks!

Thanks, bro. That house was built in 1897 so if it could talk I'm sure it would have some stories to tell, just nothing quite like this one!

And if it wasn't for the house being as old as it was I would have been dead because I was in the room that the tree landed on when it hit, namely washing dishes in the kitchen.

I am glad to be okay, but it just sucks not being able to sleep in your own house that you bought a decade ago because of something out of your control. Let's see how long it takes the insurance company to handle this mess. I filed my claim literally ten minutes after this happened.

I'm staying with my girlfriend right now, but she just has a small, one bedroom apartment so this kind of sucks. Plus, I don't really have anywhere to put my dog. My roommate is staying in the house tonight and tomorrow during the day while he waits for the electric company and the insurance company to show up and survey the damage. I really want to be home playing NBA 2k9 on my HDTV right now and not here that's for sure. This experience will humble me, if anything.

Yeah, back East have tornado, hurricanes or lightening storms. But we have earth quakes. So I guess it will find you one way or the other.

Thanks, bro. Yeah, we had an ice storm a year and half ago that took out a giant limb from the tree in the front yard that had to be removed, but that was on the tree lawn so the city had to pay for it!

And while some of the storms here really suck, they are nothing compared to the hurricanes that hit back home. I am so glad not to be living there anymore during hurricane season.

And the economy really does suck here for the most part, but I am in a unique situation where I am doing a lot better here financially than I would be back home in Orlando.

You should make a baseball bat out of it.

Well, she and I have been together for years so it's not too big of a deal at all. I usually sleep here at least once a week anyway, if not more. But the fact is that this place is just so small and we have different opinions about how one's home should be. She doesn't even own a television (by choice, mind you) and wakes up to do yoga at 6:00 am (which is usually when I go to sleep) every morning and that drives me nuts!

                      Holy Crap!! Glad you're ok.

I've only had my truck be hit by falling trees/limbs, never my house.

The sound of a tree falling (or large branches snapping off) is crazy. One across the street fell off a few weeks ago. I was playing video games with a friend with the windows open and we heard that slow snapping sound. Looked outside and oh, there's a big *** tree branch chillin' on my neighbors fence. What's up...

Glad you're okay though. What are the chances of being in a room in your house when a tree falls onto that same part of the house? Got to be pretty crazy odds...

if a tree false on your house does it make a sound?

                            Think about it...
