I would get the tree off immediately. Usually your insurance company will at least cover up to a certain amount to remove and haul away the tree. If they are stalling, then pay for it and then get reimbursed if you have the money. Then I wouldn't stay in the house until someone has declared it safe. You never know what has happened to the structure and if a load bearing wall, beam, etc has been damaged.

We had a tree fall on my parents house when I was in high school. Thankfully the ranch house had a huge beam running down the complete length of the roof. Without that, the roof would have come down. 2 rooms were damaged because the tree came through it. It sucks because we had to live in a hotel for a while until the house was livable and then it took a little while to get all the repairs finished.

LOL i was thinking the same thing about the forum name...

Definitely glad no one got hurt. Things can be replaced, people can't.

Well, my forum name is the name of my band:

DISLIMB's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

If you don't like death metal, we're probably not for you though.

And of course, everyone I know is already mentioning the irony of me singing for a band called Dislimb for eight years and having this happen.

My roommate just called and said that both the tree service and the roof service have already came over but they cannot legally touch anything until the power company shows up and handles the stray lines. I don't blame them, it's just not very safe having that there on the ground in that mess.

Man, that sucks, glad you're ok. We have two large oaks in our front lawn and two large ash trees in the back. Any time it starts getting windy or storming my wife is always panicking about trees smashing our house and us. I live in IL and we see plenty of crazy weather so it's always a concern. We've lost some big limbs over the year, but only one did some damage and that was to the roof of my car.

Re: So, a gigantic oak tree got struck by lightning and landed on my house today...

                Good news, bad news...

The good news is that the phone company called my cell and told me that they will be able to fix the phone lines to the house no problem.

The bad news is that they said it is going to take them at least two weeks to come out and do it!

I have DSL so that means no internet at my house for 14-20 days. No computer, no Xbox 360, no nothing. So lame.

And the cherry on top is that I still have not heard a single word back from the insurance company. I guess I'm not in "good hands" after all.

I listened to A Quality of Mercy, needs more Skwisgaar Skwigelf

Actually, were there lyrics? I heard some growling but it was totally incomprehensible. That's not a flame either. I'm not a fan of death metal but I like to give things a try. Because I know nothing about the genre, it sounded like Dethklok to me.

Sorry about the tree bro but if you dont mind me asking...Whats that brown pipe on the roof?

Is it a damaged plumbing vent or does it actually connect to the upstairs for some reason?

There are lyrics, but I am not about to violate the TOS here by posting them!

And we've been around a lot longer than our animated peers have, they just have (a hell of a lot) more money to promote themselves.

Thanks for listening though, it's nice to have some fresh ears check us out regardless of their personal tastes.

It does have something to do with the old plumbing system (again the house was built in 1897) but it actually doesn't serve a purpose anymore since I don't have any plumbing upstairs. The other half of that pipe ended up in my neighbor's driveway along with a huge limb from that tree. Lucky for him he had just left to go grocery shopping about ten minutes before the lightning struck the tree. Lucky SOB!

                                QUADRUPLE POST!

Considering the circumstances, I figured I could get away with 40 in a row...

Anyway, I talked my girlfriend into letting me move my 40" LCD HDTV into her apartment along with my Xbox 360, my computer and a crate full of my DVDs. Lucky for me I had just introduced her to Rock Band 2 about a month ago and she likes to sing so it wasn't too tough of a sell!

So now that I have stuff here to keep me busy for a while, I should be all good. If anyone is ever down for some Rock Band 2, NBA 2K9, GTA IV or Gears Of War 2 online then hit me up. My gamertag is Dislimb420 (and no I don't even smoke the "stuff" either) and let me know you're from OS.
