Just joined costco, and was excited to see wild caught sockeye salmon for $9.50/lb. Way cheaper than anything else I've ever seen. Not as good as king salmon, but still great.

Already grilled some in a soy sauce and brown sugar marinade, delicous

Here are some of the great things we made late summer/early fall. Only ones I have pics of.

Lets see, we've got quinoa with black beans, avacadoes, tomatoes.

        Curried coconut kale soup.

Indian spiced okra and butternut squash roasted with pine nuts.

Grilled pizzas, one with tomato and basil and the other with pesto and feta

All delicious and pretty quick to make.

ESPND, do you have recipes for those? My dad doesn't eat meat or cheese and those look like something he would enjoy.

I don't have specific recipes on me. When my wife and I cook, we usually find recipes from Mark Bittman (http://www.amazon.com/Cook-Everythin.../dp/0764578650 or there is an app for mobile phones) or my wife finds recipes on some food blogs.

Here are a couple of good ones.

http://peasandthankyou.com/ - all vegan/veggie, seriously delicious stuff though from what we've made

                http://www.dailygarnish.com/- all vegetarian

here's the one for coconut curry kale soup:

What do you guys normally make for Christmas/Holidays?

I made apple crisp for Thanksgiving, which was my first time making it so I stuck with the Betty Crocker recipe. I also used dark brown sugar, which made the topping a bit darker than what I've had. It tasted delicious straight from the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.

We always have sausage balls, hay stacks, and red velvet cake in the house during the holidays.

Last Christmas I made oreo balls after seeing the recipe in the OT thread. Good. God. Awesome.

I stuff a ham for Christmas. Sounds weird to most people but it is wonderful. Just something learned growing up in Southern MD. (The only place it is made and it goes back to colonial times).

The only real tradition we do for Christmas is Slow Roasted Prime Rib, made by yours truly. Everything after that is a free for all for people to bring. Although poeple typically bring the same things. Mac and cheese, mashed new potatoes, greens, baked beans, etc..

                          Thanskgiving is the usual stuff.

I'm gonna try and make gingerbread cookies this year and of course sugar cookies with icing.

Last night I fried chicken (surprise), but instead of using breadcrumbs I rolled the chicken in a ranch dip packet with some celery flakes. It was quite tasty.

I really want to do a Prime Rib this Christmas, but the cost is just too high for only the three of us. We'll probably do a butterflied leg of lamb or our regular ham.

There aren't many things I dislike when it comes to food (being a chef and all) but Gingerbread cookies are one of them. I truly dislike them. And Vandekamps fish sticks. ick.

Yeah that's a whole lot of beef for 3 people. Leg of lamb sounds about prefect for that many.

Sometime this weekend I'm going to attempt to make those Hurricane rolls Husker posted about in OT. Going to be tough finding crawfish though. I may have to sub that out. We'll see.
