It's a tough situation for him, but your beliefs should trump that.

I agree that it's bad to bring a kid into the world if you can't afford that child, but that's why there's adoption if you find yourself in that position.

completely agree, if the kid can't take care of the child, at least give the child another shot at life with a family that can...

A real friend wouldn't keep asking you once you said no and gave your explanation.

He needs to man up and work 2 jobs, do whatever it takes. But you never ask someone to compromise their principles like that.

Just tell the dude you'll be his friend, help him look for extra work, etc, but you aren't going to give him the cash. Period. So don't ask again.

I do not loan money to friends, well in excess of $20. I'd have a hard time loaning $20.

Money is something I like to keep personal.

That site should help him deal w/ his problems, and since the loan is interest free, its not costing him more than borrowing from friends. This may not solve your problem though, because in a way you would still be facilitating that choice, but it is another option.

It has come to an end, I talked to him today and he told me him and his girl went Sunday to get it done. He came up with the money like i thought he would. It was actually his girl, him and the girl's mother.

They had the appointment at 10:00am but got there around 8. He was surprised to see a load of people there, he assumed it was only going to be him and a couple of other people, but the place was packed; said it sort of eased the situation a bit because you know your not the only person going through the situation.

So in the end i didn't have to help him out at all, and the last Saturday of the month, me him and some of the fellas from work are going to New York to hang.

Side note: Now his girl is on the pill

Good to hear things have seemed to work out. He and his girl made the decision they thought was the smartest, you didn't have to loan out any money that you didn't feel comfortable doing morally, and you're still friends. Winners all around, as far as I can see.

Though the guy made a bad decision (not enough protection during sex), he seems like a pretty decent dude in that he's not holding it against you for doing what you felt was right. I'm sure the guy was under a lot of strain with this whole situation so it's good to hear he didn't snap at you because of his own problems.
